Men take 5th, women 10th at Jack Brown Memorial

LAREDO, Texas – Battling the southern heat in their first appearances of the spring, the Fort Lewis College men's and women's golf teams finished 5th and 10th respectively at the Jack Brown Memorial hosted by Texas A&M International at the Laredo Country Club.

Both the Skyhawks men's and women's team notched their second-highest team finishes of the 2022-23 season.

"I'm proud of both teams," Fort Lewis College Head Coach Jim Foltz said. "We haven't been able to play. Battling the weather in Durango, Colorado, we get stuck inside practicing on a simulator most of the winter. Going against a very strong field of competition, playing a very challenging course with Bermuda grass and plenty of heat, I believe they played well and really gutted it out."

INSIDE THE SCORECARDS
On the men's side, Carson Kerr led Fort Lewis finishing third among all competitors landing a birdie on 26 of his 36 total holes. Nicholas Krantz and Traejan Andrews also tied for sixth in total birdies with six. As a unit, the Skyhawks totaled 98 pars and 20 birdies. Andrews had the highest individual finish of any Skyhawk taking sole ownership of 11th place with a 150, +2 (76, 74) on the final scorecard.

As for the women's team, Kendal Gutierrez led all of Fort Lewis finishing in a tie for 34th with a 167, +23 (87, 80) on the scorecard. As a team, FLC averaged 3.42 on par threes, 4.97 on par fours, and 5.75 on par fives while totaling 61 pars and four birdies.
