Skyhawks seek favorable finish in Michigan

PIERSON, Mich. – Fort Lewis men's golf finds itself chasing the top-half of the field, residing in seventh place among thirteen teams after the first two rounds of the Pilgrim's Run Invitational over at Pilgrim's Run Golf Course in Pierson, Michigan.
 
The Skyhawks, sitting at 614 (+30) overall, moved into the top half of the field after shaving off fourteen strokes as a team between the first and second rounds. Fort Lewis sits six strokes back from UT Tyler (608, +24), who received votes on the Golf Coaches Association of America Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Poll, and seven strokes behind Tiffin University (607, +23).
 
The Buffaloes from West Texas A&M, who also picked up votes on the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Poll, lead the tournament overall as the only team below par with a 582 (-2). West Texas' Santiago Caride has dominated the field thus far, and leads the individual leaderboard by seven strokes on a commanding 138 (-8).
 
Traejan Andrews, the lone Skyhawk to qualify for the NCAA West South Central Super Regional last spring, maintained his role as FLC's lead man, pacing the Skyhawks in a tie for fifth as an individual on one-over-par 147. The redshirt junior posted four bogeys in each round, but managed five birdies overall and an eagle on the hole ten par-four. Jordan Jennings is the only other Skyhawk inside of the top 25, sitting in a tie for 23rd with a 152 (+6).
 
Rounding out the back half for Fort Lewis is Ian Henderson in a tie for 40th on a 157 (+11), Benjamin Harding in a tie for 51st on a 159 (+13), and Jake Chesler in a tie for 59th on a 161 (+15). Freshman Chase Rogers, competing as an unattached individual, finds himself in a tie for 77th through the first two rounds of his career on a 167 (+21).
 
The final round is set for a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 9.
