LAST OUTING
Last weekend, Fort Lewis began its 2023 campaign at the South-Central Regional Tournament hosted by Western New Mexico. The Skyhawks saw a pair of victories on day one over Texas Permian Basin 5-2 and Western New Mexico 5-3. Freshman Labraida Tenorio made her collegiate debut against the Falcons, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing just five hits and two earned runs en route to earning her first career win. In game two, sophomore Amiee Shanks went the distance throwing her 10th career complete game allowing just seven hits alongside four strikeouts.

Day two was not as gracious for Fort Lewis as FLC dropped both games in succession to West Texas A&M 9-0 and Simon Fraser 6-3. Alex Tenorio led the Skyhawks at the plate across the weekend, hitting a combined 8-12 (.667) featuring one double, three runs scored, two runs batted in, and a stolen base. The sophomore from Albuquerque, New Mexico, also drew a single walk with only one strikeout.

SCOUTING THE FIELD
Headlining this weekend's tournament is a rematch with the Lady Buffs on their home field. West Texas A&M dominated at the South-Central Regional Tournament last weekend, shutting out Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands while also taking down Adams State 13-4 and Colorado State University-Pueblo 12-4. All-in-all the Lady Buffs did not allow an opponent to trail any closer than seven runs in any game.

Second up on the docket are the sixth-ranked Javelinas from Texas A&M Kingsville. Last weekend TAMUK took part in the Mardi Gras Invitational in Lafayette, Louisiana, emerging with a 2-4 record. The Javelinas took down Union University (Tennessee) 3-0 and Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-2 but fell to Oklahoma Baptist, Mississippi College, Harding, and Southern Arkansas.

The final foe awaiting Fort Lewis is the Greyhounds from Eastern New Mexico. Sitting seventh among a 15-team field in the Lone Star Conference, ENMU boasts a 4-3 record after taking on the Lubbock Sports College Softball Classic. Eastern New Mexico took down Newman in its season-opener 9-4 and proceeded to top Southern Nazarene 7-0, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 5-4, and Chadron State 12-0 in five innings. The Greyhounds three losses of the weekend came at the hands of Nebraska-Kearney, no. 22 Washburn, and game two against Chadron State.

NEXT UP, CONFERENCE PLAY
Next weekend the Skyhawks will begin the 44-game journey through Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Fort Lewis will remain on the road, heading to Grand Junction, Colorado, for a four-game series at Colorado Mesa. The Skyhawks and Mavericks will play a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19. The first pitch on Saturday is slated for 12:00 p.m. on the CMU Softball Field.
