Men's Basketball 3/1/2023 12:45:00 PM Hayden Mangan, Athletic Communications Assistant Five Skyhawks tabbed with All-RMAC Honors DURANGO, Colo. – Following a historic season for the Fort Lewis College men's basketball that continues this weekend at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament, five Skyhawks have earned All-RMAC recognition the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. Akuel Kot and JaQuaylon Mays were each tabbed with First Team All-Conference honors, the first of Mays' and second of Kot's careers. Brenden Boatwright secured Second Team All-Conference honors, while Dunnell Stafford and Obi Agbim each picked up All-Conference Honorable Mention: the first of each of their careers. At six-foot-two out of Amarillo, Texas, Kot was a no-doubter on this season's list of RMAC honorees. Kot has had a historic season of his own, setting program records in single-game scoring with a 45-point performance against the University of Texas Permian Basin, and single-season scoring with now 701 points following last night's RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal win over Regis University. Kot is currently averaging 24.2 points per game, a mark that ranks fourth in the country, on a 50.1% shooting output with 37 steals and nine blocks. Additionally, Kot is 204-236 at the free throw line ranking third in single-season free throw attempts and second in single-season free throws made. In just his first season with Fort Lewis after transferring from Missouri Western University, JaQuaylon Mays has created a phenomenal impact. Standing at six-foot-one and tabbed as the Skyhawks point guard, Mays is averaging 11.8 points, 5.6 rebounds – which leads FLC – and 3.0 assists per game. Mays has also tallied 86 assists, 41 steals, and ten blocks thus far. Playing in his final season with the Skyhawks, Boatwright has picked up his first Second-Team honors after being tabbed with All-Conference Honorable Mention last season. Boatwright burst onto the scene this season hitting a buzzer-beating trey in the opening game of the year to lift FLC past Eastern New Mexico University. Since then, Boatwright has been a workhorse in the post for the Skyhawks averaging 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game with a pair of double-doubles. Boatwright is one of Fort Lewis' best free throw shooters with an 80.0% record at the charity stripe. Stafford, a three-year veteran with Fort Lewis' has notched his first career conference honor. While Stafford averages 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in the box score, his impact on the floor goes beyond what numbers can show. Stafford has been one of the directors for the Skyhawks on the floor, averaging 28.3 minutes per game as one of Fort Lewis' best on defense. Rounding out the All-RMAC honorees for Fort Lewis is Agbim, a transfer from Northeastern Junior College. Known for his thunderous dunks and heat-checks from NBA range, Agbim has supplied an additional 10.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game on 43.2% shooting from the floor and 34.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Agbim currently ranks fourth on the Skyhawks roster with 285 points scored this season. Black Hill State University's Joel Scott was tabbed as the RMAC Player of the Year averaging 22.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and leading the Yellow Jackets to a 25-4 overall record and a rematch with Fort Lewis in the RMAC Tournament Semifinals this Friday, Mar. 3. Metropolitan State University of Denver's Brayden Maldonado and New Mexico Highlands University's TJ Sanchez were each tabbed with co-freshmen of the year's honors. Colorado Mesa University's Mac Riniker and head coach Mike DeGeorge were named the defensive player of the year and coach of the year respectively.
