Rodman’s two-run shot in extras lifts Skyhawks to series split at Regis

DENVER, Colo. – Catheryn Rodman was the hero in game three, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Skyhawks to a 2-0 victory over the rangers. In game four, however, Regis University roared back to win 6-0 and force a 2-2 split on the four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series Sunday afternoon in Denver.

Fort Lewis has split its third conference series of the season and now stands at 10-17 overall and 8-12 mark through conference play. Regis moves to 16-14 overall and 13-7 in RMAC contests.

Rodman led a trio of Skyhawks to all find two hits on the afternoon. Olivia Wick led Regis at the plate with two hits, three runs batted in, and a run scored.

GAME ONE – FORT LEWIS 2, REGIS 0
Amiee Shanks (7-5) toed the rubber against Regis' Kylie Harpman (5-5) for what would be a pitcher's duel. While Harpman fanned seven to Shanks' two, Shanks held down the Rangers allowing just three hits and four walks across the game. Harpman gave up eight total hits but walked just a single batter.

Shanks dominated early drawing five-straight groundouts and striking out her sixth batter to cap off a pair of perfect innings. Alex Tenorio doubled in the top of the first for the Skyhawks, but back-to-back outs ended the inning. Harpman continued to down Fort Lewis at the plate, allowing just a single hit per inning from the fourth through the eighth innings.

In the top of the eighth, Fort Lewis finally had the opportunity needed with a leadoff single from Sloan Shotton. After a sacrifice bunt from Tenorio moved Shotton to second, Rodman stepped up and hit the go-ahead two-run home run clear over the left field fence. Shanks earned the win after throwing an eight-inning complete game, her seventh of the season. Harpman was credited for the loss.

GAME TWO – REGIS 6, FORT LEWIS 0
After being blanked for eight-straight frames through game one of the afternoon, Regis was finally ready to get on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, Jessi Case hit a lead-off solo home run to left-center field, and just two at-bats later Rachel Williams hit a solo shot of her own to right field for the early 2-0 advantage.

The Skyhawks mustered up a single and a hit-by-pitch through the following two innings but could not succeed with a runner on base. A trio of walks opened the bottom of the third inning with Regis in scoring position, and Olivia Wick took advantage with a double down the left-field line to plate all three. Katherine Raper singled to drive in Wick, and Regis was in front 6-0 after the third inning.

Fort Lewis found four total hits across the final three innings, but Regis' Vanessa Candito (2-2) proved too much for FLC to handle. Candito allowed five hits across her outing with one walk and seven strikeouts. Labraida Tenorio (1-5) was credited for the loss.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Skyhawks will head home for a short while before returning to the road for another four-game RMAC series at the Metropolitan State University of Denver (23-8, 19-1) next Friday and Saturday at the Athletic Assembly Complex.
