Akuel Kot secures D2CCA Second Team All-American honors

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis College men's basketball guard Akuel Kot has been tabbed with Second Team All-American honors by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, the organization announced Monday.
 
Kot led the Skyhawks to a prolific season setting the program record with a 29-4 overall record and making an appearance in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
 
With an offensive output of 24.3 points per game, Kot finished the season ranked fourth among all Division II men's basketball in scoring. Making 226 free throws this season, Kot also ranks second among Division II in made free throws while also setting the program's single-season record.
 
Totaling 801 points this season, Kot recently set the new program single-season scoring record. Back on Nov. 19, Kot also broke the program's single-game scoring record with a 45-point performance against The University of Texas Permian Basin.
 
Kot never finished a single contest below 11 points and scored 30 or more points on eight different occasions. Kot now adds to his already extensive list of awards this season featuring First Team All-RMAC honors, RMAC All-Tournament team, RMAC Tournament MVP, South-Central Regional All-Tournament team, and D2CCA First Team All South-Central Region.

Black Hills State University's Joel Scott was the only other member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference to earn All-American honors and was also named the 2022-23 Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. 
 
Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II South-Central Region schools and conferences selected the two All-Region teams. Only First Team All-Region honorees are eligible for All-American honors. This is the second year the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association has sponsored the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball All-Region and All-American teams.
 
The Division II CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
