DURANGO, Colo. – After backing up its co-regular-season title and downing two, Top-16 ranked opponents en route to winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team has secured seventh and fifth-place rankings in the final editions of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Division II College Spots Communicators Media Top 25 Polls.
The Skyhawks historical season has seen several records fall, but none more impressive than finishing the season with 25 regular season wins, a 10-1 record on the road, and matching the program record with 28 wins in a single season.
At the RMAC Tournament in Grand Junction, Colo., Fort Lewis entered as the No. 2 seed and proceeded to defeat No. 3 seed and 16
th-ranked Black Hills State University (25-5) and No. 4 seed and 13
th-ranked Colorado School of Mines (26-5) by scores of 83-78 and 82-76 respectively.
In the latest NABC Poll, the Skyhawks stand atop all of the remaining RMAC programs and one of just eight teams with three losses or fewer at No. 7. On the D2CSC Media Poll, Fort Lewis has jumped its previous seventh-ranked standing into No. 5.
Mines trails FLC as the next closest RMAC team coming in at No. 14 and 17 respectively. Colorado Mesa University (25-5) falls just behind Mines at No. 20/T20 with Black Hills closely behind at No. 21/T20.
Fort Lewis continues its march through the postseason this week at the South-Central Regional Tournament hosted by West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. The Skyhawks have donned the No. 2 seed and will battle seventh-seeded Lubbock Christian University (19-11) in the opening round this Saturday, Mar. 11, at 1:30 p.m. MST.
