Scorching-hot Skyhawks set to clash with Cowgirls

DURANGO, Colo. – Flying high on an eight-game win streak the Fort Lewis College softball team hopes to continue its success on the road this weekend as the Skyhawks head to New Mexico Highlands University for a four-game, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series with the Cowgirls.

All four games will be streamed on the RMAC Network for free. Live statistics will also be available courtesy of NMHU Athletics.

LAST TIME OUT
Fort Lewis has seemingly found another gear these past two weeks, clinching back-to-back series sweeps for just the second time in program history to match the program's longest winning streak at eight-straight games.

The Skyhawks (19-18, 17-13 RMAC) handled the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (11-28, 8-22 RMAC) at home, outscoring the Mountain Lions 25-6 across the weekend including a 6-0 shutout in game three.

Amiee Shanks (13-5) was phenomenal in the circle, downing UCCS for three wins on the weekend with two complete games. All told, Shanks tallied 17.0 innings while holding the Mountain Lions to two earned runs on 12 hits and one walk while striking out seven. Offensively UCCS could not slow down Kayla Stone. The junior went 5-for-12 at the plate scorching a quartet of doubles to record 10 RBIs.

SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
New Mexico Highlands is looking to flip its script this weekend after taking four-straight losses at the hands of Regis University (25-17, 22-10 RMAC). Now at 14-25 overall and 10-21 in RMAC play, the Cowgirls will have a tall task ahead as Fort Lewis has won the last 10 matchups against NMHU including six-straight games at Brandt Field.

In the circle, the Cowgirls currently rank 8th in the conference with a 5.20 combined ERA led by Maya Milano. The sophomore from Bologna, Italy, owns a 4.86 ERA with 43 strikeouts through 111.0 innings of work. On offense, Samantha Gamboa leads the Cowgirls in nearly every category. Boasting a .405 average, Gamboa has tallied 45 hits and driven in 21 RBI while also stealing 18 bases on 22 attempts.

LOOKING AHEAD
Next weekend Fort Lewis will make its final appearance at home. Debuting its inaugural spring Nike N7 games, the Skyhawks will host Adams State University (9-30, 6-22 RMAC) for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 22-23.
