Skyhawks to meet No. 9 Cougars in penultimate regular season finale

DURANGO, Colo. – Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Fort Lewis College softball team (23-22, 21-17 RMAC) is headed into the Cougars den to challenge Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Champions and 9th-ranked Colorado Christian University (48-4, 38-2 RMAC) in a four-game series in Lakewood, Colorado.

The four-game series will take place at All Star Park on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 28-29. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. while Saturday is slated for 11:00 a.m. Live statistics and a live broadcast on the RMAC Network will be available courtesy of Colorado Christian Athletics.

LAST TIME OUT
Labraida Tenorio (3-7) was the talk of the weekend as the Skyhawks downed Adams State University (10-37, 7-29 RMAC) three games to one in a four-game set. Fort Lewis dominated on day one, outscoring the Grizzlies 19-6 on the day and securing a pair of wins. In game two, Tenorio toed the rubber and threw the program's first no-hitter since Emily Morris in 2019. Cut short due to the mercy run rule, Tenorio needed just 70 total pitches to handle Adams State at the plate. On day two, the Skyhawks held off Adams State for a game three victory, but couldn't stifle the invaders from Alamosa, Colo., long enough and fell in the final game of the series.

SCOUTING THE NO.9 COUGARS
Colorado Christian cruises into the weekend series on a two-game win streak and 14-2 over its last four conference series. The Cougars, ranked ninth nationally by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, have dominated all oppositions this season and were the first program across all NCAA Divisions (I, II, III) to eclipse 40 wins this season.

The Skyhawks trail the Cougars 14-26 in the all-time series including an 0-12 clip on the road at CCU. In addition, Colorado Christian has won the last seven-straight contests and the previous six series.

In the circle for the Cougars stands Kali Crandall (24-2), the conference leader in earned run average (1.28), opposing batting average (.132), innings pitched (169.2), strikeouts (193), batters struck out looking (44), and wins (24). Crandall, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma Christian University, is also hot off a perfect game, the second in Cougars history. The Artesia, N.M., native needed just 54 total pitches to down the Mavericks with perfection through 5.0 innings of work.

Colorado Christian is no slouch at the plate either, boasting nine Cougars with a .300 batting average or higher guided by Kenzie Middleton. Middleton, a junior from Golden, Colo., leads CCU and the conference in batting average (.441), slugging percentage (.862), on-base + slugging (1.351), runs scored (65), hits (86), and ranks second in on-base percentage (.489) and home runs (15).

FIGHTING FOR THE FINAL SPOT
After this weekend's series all that lies ahead is the RMAC Tournament and the postseason. For the Skyhawks, who currently hold the sixth and final spot in the tournament, their fate lies in the hands of themselves and Chadron State College (24-23, 22-18 RMAC) who trails by just half a game. Fort Lewis at the very least must match the Eagles, who will host Colorado State University-Pueblo (20-27, 15-23 RMAC), in wins this weekend to secure the program's third-straight trip to the RMAC Tournament.
