Mays signs summer league contract with Cafeteros Basketball Club

DURANGO, Colo. – JaQuaylon Mays, a former member of the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team, has signed a professional contract with the Cafeteros Basketball Club.

Located in Columbia, The Cafeteros Basketball Club is a member of the Liga WPlay De Baloncesto and competes from May through June. Mays is the second-straight Skyhawk to sign a professional contract in as many years after JacQuess Hobbs signed with Angra Basket in Portugal last September.

"Coming to Fort Lewis was one of the best decisions I've made in my life," Mays shared. "Competing at the highest level in Division II was crucial to getting me to where I am now. Every practice, every game, and every detail at Fort Lewis was held to a professional standard. Coach Pietrack, Coach Danielson, and all of the guys on our squad held me to the highest standard and forced me to be better."

Mays, a 6-1 guard from Fort Smith, Arkansas, spent just one season at Fort Lewis after transferring from Missouri Western State University. Starting all 33 games for the blue and gold while averaging 28.6 minutes per game, Mays guided the Skyhawks to a share of the regular-season and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championships.

Shooting a strong 46.3% from the floor with a 42.0% clip from the three-point line, Mays averaged 11.7 points per game to complement 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Mays burst onto the scene last season with a 20-point, six-rebound performance in the season opener against Eastern New Mexico. While holding the ability to score, Mays was an avid ball-distributor for the Skyhawks at the top of the key. Back on Feb. 17, 2023, Mays was instrumental in the Skyhawks' 76-68 and second-straight win over second-ranked Black Hills State University with a 26-point performance that featured a trio of three-point heat checks to capture the late lead.

With Fort Lewis, Mays capped off his collegiate career with a pair of conference championships and First Team All-Conference honors.
