MESCALERO, N.M. – Carson Kerr led the Fort Lewis College men's golf team through a challenging field of competition to a seventh-place team finish at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association South Central Shootout at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Golf Course co-hosted by the RJGA and Western New Mexico University on Monday and Tuesday.

"Overall, I'm very proud of the men and how they played," said Head Coach Jim Foltz. "They played 36 holes the first day and started out slow. Going into the first round the men shot twelve over. In the second round that same day we ended up six under. They all bounced back and finished strong."

West Texas A&M University walked away with the first-place team title with an 853 (285, 285, 283), finishing 11 under par. Fort Lewis took home seventh posting an 884 (301, 283, 300) on the scorecard and finishing 20 strokes over par.

University of Texas Permian Basin's Sangha Park sealed the individual title, finishing with a 206 (-10) to beat out a second-place tie by four strokes. Kerr had the strongest performance for the Skyhawks, totaling 218 (70, 72, 76) across all three rounds to finish two over par and earn a tie for 18th place. Ronald Kildall III secured the only other top-25 finish with a tie for 20th at 3 over par.

Kerr was the only Skyhawk to finish below par in round one. The junior drained three birdies accompanied by fourteen pars and a single bogey to finish two under. Fort Lewis as a unit totaled eight birdies in the opening round, but 11 bogeys, three double-bogeys, and a lone triple bogey slowed the team down bringing FLC to thirteen over.

Fort Lewis had a strong comeback going into the second round. The Skyhawks' own Henry Poston and Jake Chesler fired off two eagles on hole five to kickstart the momentum. The team also dropped 14 birdies, 39 pars, and 15 bogeys to finish the day at six under par. Poston and Kildall III led the team through round two, both shooting an impressive 69 (-3).

The challenges continued for FLC heading into the final round. As a team, Fort Lewis sank 13 birdies and 36 pars, but 21 bogeys and two double bogeys resulted in a twelve-over finish. Kildall III and Chesler carried the team into the final round, leading them through the last 18 with 73 (+1) each.
