Skyhawks men take sixth at RJGA Palm Valley Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – With Traejan Andrews leading the charge with a T-8 finish as an individual, the Fort Lewis Skyhawks men's golf team ultimately shot its best round of the tournament to capture sixth-place as a team on an 843 (-21) at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Club.
 
Fort Lewis continued its upwards trajectory, or rather downwards improvement on the score card, shooting a team-best 279 (-9) to make a continuous two-stroke improvement from each round to cap the tournament at 843 (-21) and edge out No. 22-ranked University of Texas Permian Basin's 844 (-20), No. 42 University of Texas at Tyler's 849 (-15), and No. 35 Midwestern State University's 851 (-13).
 
Andrews, a redshirt junior, stayed true in round three, matching his second-round 70 (-2) with five birdies to slide just two spots and register T-8 on a 207 (-9) overall for his fifth top 15 finish of the season. Ian Henderson was one of two other Skyhawks to finish inside the top 50 as the senior turned in an even par 72 to sit T-35 on a 213 (-3) overall. Chase Rogers finished one stroke back in T-41 on a 214 (-2) despite firing a personal tournament-best 69 (-3) for his second sub-70 round of the season.
 
No. 39 California State University, Chico won team medalist honors by an 11-stroke margin with a tournament-record 825 (-39), besting future 2024 national champions Colorado Christian University's previous record of 827 (-37). On the individual leaderboard, Chico State's Naoki Easterday tied with Colorado School of Mines' Liam Allan on a pair of impressive 204s (-12), but it was Allan who emerged victorious with a birdie on the third playoff hole.
 
Senior Jordan Jennings wrapped up the Skyhawks. scoring quartet, taking T-52 and settling for an even par of 216 after a third-round 75 (+3). Jake Chesler bounced back with an impressive 68 (-4) in his final round to climb up 25 spots into T-71 on a 219 (+3) total. Davis Johnson, competing as an unattached individual, captured T-89 on a 224 (+8).

Next up for the Fort Lewis Skyhawks men's golf team are the 2026 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Apr. 19-21. For the fourth-straight year, the conference championships will take place at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
