Women's soccer on the road to face #22 Mavericks and Griffins

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis College women's soccer takes its talents on the road this week with Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference head-to-head matches against No. 22 Colorado Mesa University and Westminster University.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks faced a tall task at home last week when they welcomed No. 1 Colorado School of Mines and UCCS for a Friday/Sunday split. Fort Lewis began the home series against the Orediggers on Friday and fell by a 5-1 final score. Despite the score, Fort Lewis maintained 61% of possession and played a quality match. The Orediggers narrowly outshot the Skyhawks 15-13 for the match, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal. Mines had an advantage in corner kicks at 6-1. The teams combined for 10 saves and 11 fouls.

Fifth-year defender Elizabeth David was responsible for Fort Lewis' lone goal after banking a free kick from 35 yards. Five additional players recorded shots on goal for the Skyhawks. Senior Sabrina Reyes was the lone Skyhawk to play the full 90 minutes. Fifth-year goalkeepers Riley Bravin and Katlyn Rosenbaum split time with Rosenbaum earning three saves. Mines was led by Reese McDermott who netted two goals while Cloey Seltzer dished out two assists.

On Sunday, Fort Lewis fell in a narrow 1-0 final to UCCS. The Skyhawks held a slight lead in shots at 12-11, but the Mountain Lions held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Fort Lewis was called for nine fouls and picked up one yellow card while UCCS committed six fouls and received two yellows.

Juniors Josie Coulter and Abigail Nkrumah both had three shots, and all three of Nkrumah's were on goal. Elizabeth David, Anna Tucker, and Ashlyn Salas had the team's additional three shots on goal. Sophomore Ann Spence led the team in minutes played with 79. The Fort Lewis keepers, Riley Bravin and Katlyn Rosenbaum, combined for six saves. The Mountain Lions earned their goal off the foot of Luka Johnson, assisted by Elise Broberg.

Scouting No. 22 Colorado Mesa
The Mavericks ascended into the national rankings following a weekend sweep. They now boast a 7-1-2 record, a 5-0 mark in conference play, and five straight wins. Last week, Colorado Mesa earned a 2-0 win over Colorado Christian and a 2-1 win against MSU Denver. The Mavericks rank second in the conference with 15 points, just one point behind No. 1 Mines.

The successful road week led to a pair of RMAC Player of the Week honors, including Offensive and Goalkeeper of the Week nods. Sauvelyne Randel took home Offensive Player of the Week recognition after a three-goal weekend. Keely Wieczorek earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors after totaling nine saves and allowing only one goal.

As a team, the Mavericks are averaging exactly two goals per game while allowing .80 from the opposition. They fire off 17.4 shots per game versus 6.4 from the other side. Randel is leading the team with five goals, followed by Abby Fotheringham who has four. Three players boast three goals. Carli Dare is the leading assister with four to her credit. Wieczorek has played every minute at goalkeeper for the Mavericks and has 23 saves.

Fort Lewis is 20-19-7 all-time against Colorado Mesa with a 7-10-6 mark when playing in Grand Junction. The Skyhawks have lost the last four matches to the Mavericks, including a 2-0 loss last season.

Scouting Westminster University
The Griffins are 4-2-3 on the year and 2-1-2 in conference play following a loss to MSU Denver (1-0) and a tie with Colorado Christian (1-1) last week. Westminster is 3-0 at home this season. The team now ranks seventh in the RMAC standings.

As a team, the Griffins average 1.78 goals per game and allow .78 from their opponents. They total 14.2 shots per game compared to 6.4 from the opposition. Necie Gubler and Chloe Pickettt lead the team with four goals and two assists apiece. The leading assister is Kim Hendrickson who have three to go along with two goals. Brooklyn Northcutt is the leading goalkeeper and has a .60 goals against average with 22 saves across nine games.

Fort Lewis is 2-6-2 all-time against Westminster with an 0-3 record in Salt Lake City. The Skyhawks earned a 2-1 win at home last season thanks to a pair of goals by Gabi Meraz Fishbein.
