Men’s golf sits middle of the pack down in Oklahoma

DUNCAN, Okla. – Fort Lewis men's golf went five-over-par through its first trip around The Territory Golf Club before dropping to twenty-five-over in its second round to ultimately sit in tenth place among fourteen teams following the first day of The Hrnciar.
 
The Skyhawks were in contention through the opening round of play as FLC matched Cameron and Delta State for the third-lowest team score of the afternoon at 293 (+5) behind No. 19-ranked Dallas Baptist's 291 (+3) and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma's 290 (+2). However, hiccups in the second round sank the Skyhawks by 20 strokes, dropping FLC from a tie for third down to tenth on a 606 (+30) team score.  
 
USAO sits tied with Cameron and UT Tyler for first place as the three squads totaled 589 (+13) after the first 36 holes of the tournament. Fort Lewis chases Delta State and Southern Nazarene who stand tied for eighth on a one-streak lead at 605 (+29).
 
DBU's Aston Castillo leads the field of individuals as the only player to finish below par on day one with a one-under 143. Trailing Castillo is a three-way tie for second featuring Lubbock Christian's Leyton Hiebert, Midwestern State's Seth Bearden, and UT Tyler's Seth Campbell who each finished with par (144).
 
Tyler Tyson resides two strokes back from the lead after the senior from Arvada, Colo., followed up a first-round par (72) with a one-over 73 to stand at 145 (+1) overall. Despite five bogeys and a double bogey on hole seven, Tyson nearly broke even with four birdies and an eagle on hole two.
 
Carson Kerr and Ronald Kildall III tied as the next men up through the first 36 holes as the seniors stand knotted in 34th with 153s (+9) on the scorecard. Jordan Jennings trails the pair by two strokes in a tie for 45th on a 155 (+11) while Jackson Rottschafer rounds out the group in a tie for 60th with a 160 (+16).
 
Fall Finale
The Skyhawks will 18 final holes tomorrow morning to wrap up the fall schedule. Fort Lewis will be back in action in the spring of 2025 starting with the Battle In The Desert hosted by Cal State San Bernardino at the Rams Hill Golf Club on Feb. 24-26.
