Six Skyhawks earn All-RMAC honors, Meraz-Fishbein named to Second-Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team saw six players named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) All-Conference teams, led by senior Gabi Meraz-Fishbein's Second-Team nod, announced by the league on Tuesday.

Senior midfielder Gabi Meraz-Fishbein earned her second-straight Second Team All-Conference accolade after a regular season that saw her rank second on the team in minutes played (1,416). The senior played the full 90 minutes in 10 matches and contributed 110 minutes in last night's penalty kick shootout versus No. 18 Colorado Mesa University. Meraz-Fishbein has scored two goals this season, bringing her career total to seven. She has played in 70 career matches, starting in 65, and has logged over 5,000 career minutes.

Fifth-year defender McKenna Ford earned All-Conference Honorable Mention nods, the first of her career, after returning from injury for 13 matches this season. The fierce defender came on in the conference portion of the season and played four, 90 minutes matches, and the full 110 minutes last night. She is part of a backline defense that holds opponents to 1.05 goals per game and can oftentimes be found putting her body on the line to draw fouls and get her team in good position.

Senior Sabrina Reyes returns to the All-Conference Honorable Mention list for the third time in her career after a one-goal and three-assist season. The dynamic midfielder ranks fourth in minutes played (1,277) after playing in all 19 matches and starting in 15. She has played in 73 career games with 67 starts to go along with six goals and six assists and has accumulated over 5,000 minutes played.

Junior forward Josie Coulter makes her first appearance on the All-Conference Honorable Mention team following a breakout season. Coulter has two goals on the year and leads the team with five assists for an assists-per-game average (.294) that ranks second in the conference. She has career numbers in goals (2), assists (5), points (9), shots (24), and minutes played (881). Her career has seen 53 games played and 20 games started. Coulter was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 8) following a five-point weekend with two goals and an assist in a win over Adams State.

After a steady season on the Skyhawks defensive line, junior defender Rachel Peebles earned her first career All-Conference Honorable Mention accolade. She leads the team in minutes played (1,583) and has gone the distance in 10 matches—including four of the last five matches. She is part of a backline defense that holds opponents to 1.05 goals per game and has partnered for eight shutouts—including four in a row for 380 minutes of scoreless soccer for the opposition. In addition to her typical defensive prowess, Peebles has scored two game-winning goals in her junior campaign. Peebles was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 8) following back-to-back 3-0 shutouts on the road.

The final member of the All-Conference Honorable Mention squad for the Skyhawks is sophomore forward Abila Tapia. Tapia enjoyed a breakout season that features her ranking second on the team with five goals to go along with two assists for 12 points. She has scored her five goals in seven shots on goal. The sophomore is another played who has seen significant minutes after starting and playing in all 19 matches for 1,145 total minutes. After scoring one goal as a freshman, Tapia has turned up the heat to become one of the most lethal scorers in the league.

Fort Lewis (9-5-5) has advanced to the RMAC Tournament Semifinal where they face No. 3-seeded MSU Denver on Thursday from the campus of Colorado School of Mines. The Roadrunners are coming off a narrow 2-1 victory over No. 6-seeded Westminster University on Sunday and carry a 10-3-6 record.
