A look back at 2023
Last season, the Skyhawks capped off the season with a 23-26 overall record and a 21-21 mark through RMAC play for a seventh-place conference finish: one spot shy of the RMAC Tournament. Amiee Shanks, a five-foot-seven native of Tucson, Ariz., looks to lead FLC in the circle once again. In 2023, Shanks registered the 10th-best earned run average (3.44) in the league while throwing the fourth-most innings (162.2) and earning the fourth-most wins (16).

In the field, the slugging duo of Alex Tenorio and Catheryn Rodman look to return to tearing up opposing pitchers at the plate. Tenorio boasted the RMAC's sixth-best batting average (.377) while tallying 60 hits for 33 runs batted in featuring 11 doubles and eight home runs. Rodman, on the other hand, led the roster with 35 RBIs hitting a clip of .287 while tallying nine doubles, nine home runs, and a triple.

Scouting the Falcons
Texas Permian Basin had an 8-42 overall record last season and a 5-37 mark in Lone Star Conference games. The Falcons and Skyhawks met in last season's opener and Fort Lewis handed UTPB a 5-2 loss on the back of a two-hit outing from Sloan Shotton.

Sophomore infielder Keri Sanford, who led the Falcons as the only hitter with a .300+ average (.313), returns to lead the UTPB lineup alongside senior catcher Mia Quintero who led the Falcons in slugging with five doubles, a triple, and six homers. Destini Trahan, a senior from Nederland, Texas, will guide the Texas Permian Basin pitching staff once more, Last season, Trahan earned a 7.75 ERA across 24 starts for a 4-20 record.

Scouting the Red Leafs
Fort Lewis will meet the Red Leafs for just the fourth time this season as the Skyhawks trail SFU 1-2 in the all-time series. Simon Fraser has won the last two matchups 6-3 with FLC's only win coming by a 9-1 margin back in 2014. Last season, SFU posted an 11-36 record with a 5-19 record in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

Senior Megan Duclos was electric for the Red Leafs last season after boasting a .409 batting average and .906 on-base-plus-slugging percentage with 65 total hits and 43 stolen bases on 47 attempts. Junior Shaneika Hollingworth returns with SFU's best ERA at 5.48 across 99.2 innings pitched while surrendering 152 total hits and walking 40 batters against 37 strikeouts.

Scouting the Mustangs
Last year, Western New Mexico ended the season 9-41 overall and 7-35 through a challenging LSC schedule. When FLC and WNMU met last season, the Skyhawks dealt the Mustangs a 5-3 loss thanks to a three-run bomb from Cat Rodman aided by 10 total hits by Fort Lewis across the afternoon.

Kamerynn Cordova, who surrendered 10 hits and five earned runs to FLC last season, led the Mustangs through the regular season with a 5.36 ERA across 137.0 innings pitched: double the workload of any pitcher on the staff and more than the next three Mustangs combined. At the plate, Bryana Munoz and Cecy Jurado were the only pair of Mustangs to tally more than 30 hits through the season.

Scouting the Greyhounds
Eastern New Mexico, who swept Fort Lewis at last season's West Texas A&M Invitational, battled through the season to a 26-30 overall record and a 17-25 mark in conference play to earn a berth in the LSC Tournament. ENMU downed St. Mary's (Texas) 1-0 in the opening round before falling 3-2 to West Texas A&M the following game.

Mikenzey Patterson lit up opposing pitching at the plate for a .390 batting average with 60 hits including three doubles and a team-leading five triples. Azalea Martinez, however, led the Greyhounds with 36 RBIs on the season thanks to 15 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. In the circle, Brook Leger was Eastern New Mexico's ace boasting a 2.75 ERA and a 14-7 record across a team-high 150.0 innings p[itched.

Scouting the No. 4 Buffaloes
Top-ranked West Texas A&M, who has defeated Fort Lewis in all 13 contests dating back to 2013, is one of the Lone Star's biggest powerhouses since winning the Division II national championship back in 2021. Last season, the Buffaloes went 50-8 and 37-5 in LSC play before falling to UT Tyler in the South-Central Super Regional.

Three Buffs boasted above a three-hundred average last season led by Ruby Salzman (.391), Brittni Rufus (.376), Gabie McConnell (.362), and Diana Murtha (.358). In the circle is where the Buffs were most dominant, with all four qualified pitchers owning below a 2.58 ERA and the duo of Heidi Vortherms (1.30) and Emilee Wilson (1.96) leading the way. In addition, Vortherms led the LSC in ERA last season.

Looking Ahead
For the fourth consecutive year, the Skyhawks will travel to Canyon, Texas, to take on Eastern New Mexico twice more and West Texas A&M once more alongside a pair of contests against Texas A&M-Kingsville at the West Texas Invitational from Friday through Sunday, Feb. 9-11 at Schaffer Park.
