No. 3 Skyhawks complete season sweep over ThunderWolves with 86-68 win

Fort Lewis secures second consecutive 20-win season

PUEBLO, Colo. – The third-ranked Fort Lewis men's basketball team rolled past Colorado State University Pueblo 86-68 Friday night in Massari Arena to complete the season sweep, earn the program's seventh consecutive win over the ThunderWolves, and move to 20-2 overall and 15-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this season.

Fort Lewis, who moves to 58-49 all-time against CSUP, drops The Pack to 9-12 overall and 5-10 in conference play.

CSU Pueblo took a 3-2 lead on a three-pointer from Brevin Walter in the corner and the Skyhawks' stifling defense quickly set in. After retaking the lead 4-3 on an Amondo Miller Jr. layup in the post, Fort Lewis clamped down and ran off with a 22-6 offensive run that simultaneously saw FLC limit the ThunderWolves to only three jump shots from the field by the 4:28 mark.

Out of the intermission, the Skyhawks continued to roll to its largest lead of the night, 35 points, on a Brayden Carter free throw at the 14:22 mark. CSU Pueblo began to match Fort Lewis from the field, most notably knocking down eight of 21 shot attempts from deep in the second half, but Tristan Hurdle, who transferred from CSUP last summer, would not let his old squad climb back in it as he knocked down back-to-back treys just under the seven-minute mark to keep the lead at 35.

Malik Whitaker led the charge with 14 points and nine rebounds and was aided by Obi Agbim and Hurdle, who each tallied 12 points on the night, alongside Jhei-R Jones and Junior Garbrah who each registered 10 more to mark the fifth game this season that five or more Skyhawks have gone for double figures.

Walter led The Pack with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the floor and a 4-9 (44.4 percent) clip from beyond the arc. Makiah Morris scored 13 more and Armon Muldrew the final 10 to cap the ThunderWolves with double-figure scoring.

Fort Lewis dominated in points in the paint 46-28 and bench points 43-17 all the while firing off at clips of 50.0 percent (33-66) to 36.2 percent (25-69) from the field and 42.9 percent (9-21) to 29.4 percent (10-34) from deep. In Addition, the Skyhawks owned the glass on both ends of the floor outrebounding The Pack 50-34 with 15 offensive rebounds.
