No. 9 Regis earns win over Fort Lewis on Saturday

DENVER – No. 9 Regis University out-shot Fort Lewis College 36-5 in women's lacrosse play on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 17-0 win in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

Fort Lewis dropped to 1-7 on the year and 0-4 in conference play while Regis improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the league.
The Rangers put 30 shots on goal compared to just three for the Skyhawks. Fort Lewis committed 23 turnovers and was just 12-of-21 on clears. Regis game away with 19 draw controls versus two for Fort Lewis.

Sophomore Sydney Tannaci led the team with three ground balls and four caused turnovers, followed by sophomore Samantha Rodgers who had three of each. Graduate student JoJo Lutz recorded three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Junior Caley Lay and freshman Olivia Tilbury split time at goalkeeper, and Tilbury recorded a career-high seven saves.

The Rangers began the game by winning the opening draw and quickly converting for their first goal of the game. Fort Lewis picked up a caused turnover by Rodgers on the following play, but a turnover gave the home team possession. Regis took advantage of the mistake and quickly scored two more goals to make it 3-0. Lay made a pair of saves after the scoring, but the Rangers broke through again with their fourth goal of the afternoon. Fouls started to add up for Fort Lewis, directly leading to a trio of additional goals to make it 8-0. Regis added one more goal late in the quarter to carry a 9-0 lead into the second quarter.

Lay made her fifth save of the game early in the second, but Fort Lewis turnovers allowed Regis to stay in its offensive third. The Rangers slowed down somewhat on the offensive side, but the team continued to hold the Skyhawks shotless as the score drifted to 11-0. Fort Lewis saw its first shot with 40 seconds remaining in the half when freshman Avaree Carmine lined up for a free position attempt, but after missing wide, the clock ran out on a 12-0 score.

Tilbury started the second half between the pipes and quickly racked up a pair of saves to hold the score after four minutes of play. Regis eventually added two more goals thanks to back-to-back draws to extend its lead to 14-0. The home team added another goal before the Skyhawks saw their first shot on goal from freshman Piper Price with three minutes to go. The third quarter closed out with caused turnovers by Rymerson and Lutz to send things to the fourth in a 15-0 score.

Regis added another goal early in the fourth quarter, followed by a shot on goal by Abbadessa which was gobbled up by the keeper. Tilbury made another save at the 7:12 mark, but the Rangers followed with their 17^th goal 40 seconds later. The 17-goal margin stood as time expired despite a late shot on goal by freshman Kayleigh Bauroth

Fort Lewis (1-7, 0-4 RMAC) will be back home next week with a lone game against CSU Pueblo. The Saturday afternoon game will be the annual Nike N7 game, honoring Native American Heritage, as well as National Student-Athlete Day.
