FLC Game Notes

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis is coming off of a hot 3-1 weekend that saw the Skyhawks capture its first conference series of the year after out-scoring Adams State (3-18, 1-11 RMAC) 39-23 on a combined 45 hits. Amiee Shanks (4-7) earned a pair of wins after appearing in all four games and racking up 15.1 innings and seven strikeouts against only two walks. After splitting the opening day of the series with a 6-2 victory and a 10-6 loss, FLC exploded on day two for a pair of dominating 9-1 and 18-10 run rule wins that took just six innings each.

Stone Cold
Kayla Stone, a five-foot-five native of Salinas, Calif., and transfer from Monterey Peninsula College, has been hitting beach balls at the plate this season owning the fourth-best average (.475), eighth-most hits (29), and the second-highest slugging percentage (.852) in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Stone leads the roster with 25 runs batted in; more than the next two Skyhawks combined. Of her 29 total hits, Stone has recorded 14 singles, 10 doubles, two triples, and three home runs while also drawing five walks, one hit by pitch, and has struck out only four times in her 61 at-bats.

Scouting the Rangers
Regis is currently riding its pre-season ranking as the Rangers sit in fourth among the conference after getting swept 4-0 by MSU Denver (19-5, 12-0 RMAC) last weekend. Last season, FLC forced a 2-2 split on the road at RU to trail the Rangers 84-32 in the all-time series.

Miia Campos has been the hottest bat for RU as the junior infielder boasts a .415 average with 27 hits and 16 walks through 65 at-bats. Campos is tied for the team lead with four triples, while 11 different Rangers have recorded doubles, and seven have recorded triples or home runs. As a unit, the Rangers are batting .306 and are 17-24 on stolen base attempts.

In the circle, Kylie Harpman (8-4) has been a workhorse this season throwing 71.0 total innings, six more than all six other pitchers combined. Owning a 3.06 earned run average, Harpman has surrendered 39 total runs, 31 of which have been earned, on 86 total hits and 12 walks while striking out 39.

Comforts of Home
The Skyhawks will remain home up in elevation on Aspen Field next weekend as Chadron State (5-17, 5-7 RMAC) looks to invade on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 16-17, for another four-game league series. Doubleheaders are scheduled to start at noon and 11:00 a.m., respectively.
