The Mavericks benefitted from a dominant margin on the draw with 22 compared to just five for the Skyhawks. Colorado Mesa outshot Fort Lewis 39-22, including a 28-10 edge in shots on goal. The teams were even with 11 caused turnovers apiece.

Junior Caley Lay played 45 minutes at goalkeeper and collected nine saves and four ground balls.

The Fort Lewis defense showed up early in the first quarter with a quick caused turnover by Rodgers leading to the team's first shot. A save by the opposing keeper gave Colorado Mesa possession, and the home team quickly responded with their first goal of the game at the 12:50 mark. Lay went on the make back-to-back saves to hold it at a one-goal game, and Martinez netted the equalizer with just over 11 minutes to go off an assist from Ramirez. Brown made it a 2-1 Skyhawks lead with her free position chance, and the narrow lead held as the clock ticked under five minutes. The final minutes to the quarter saw the teams trading goals as the score moved to 3-3 after one quarter.

The Mavericks managed to see their first lead of the game two minutes into the second quarter thanks to a free position opportunity. Colorado Mesa continued to keep the ball in their offensive third, sending an onslaught of shots toward Lay and eventually snuck one by for a 5-3 lead. The Mavericks continued to pad the lead to two more uncontested goals coming off the draw to make it 7-3 with nine minutes to go. Tannaci added a shot on goal for Fort Lewis, its fifth of the game, late in the quarter, but it resulted in a bouncing save for Colorado Mesa. The Skyhawks finally snapped their scoreless streak with three minutes to go after Brown found Ramirez at the top of the circle for a 9-4 score. Late turnovers plagued Fort Lewis in the final moments as the score sat at 11-4 heading into halftime.

Brown got the Skyhawks off to a strong start out of the break with her second goal of the outing for an 11-5 score. Brown added another at the 11:22 mark when she caught the Colorado Mesa keeper out of position and narrowed the deficit to five goals. The Mavericks caught a break with an initial save by Lay caught a funny bounce and made its way to an awaiting Colorado Mesa player who buried the deflection. Colorado Mesa managed to score a goal after a failed clear to close out the third quarter with a 14-6 lead.

A foul gave Colorado Mesa an early advantage, and the team took advantage with its 15th goal of the contest. Fort Lewis drew a foul on its following possession, but the free position shot rattled off the crossbar to preserve the score. After a scoreless stretch, the home team eventually scored another goal to make it 16-6 with just over seven minutes remaining. The final minutes of the game played out with the Mavericks scoring another goal before a late save by freshman Olivia Tilbury ended the game.
