COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Skyhawks softball second baseman Kayla Stone slugged her way through a four-game sweep of Black Hills State last weekend en route to capturing Week 11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Stone, a five-foot-five senior and native of Salinas, Calif., has been one of the hottest bats for Fort Lewis across her two-year tenure in Durango. Since transferring from Monterey Peninsula College, Stone has started in all 85 games while donning a Skyhawks jersey.

In addition to the weekly honor being the first of Stone's career, it is also the first player of the week honor for any Skyhawks since McKenna Hefley last garnered the award Apr. 13, 2021.

Stone was near perfect on the weekend as she racked up 11 hits in 14 at-bats (.785) at the plate without recording a strikeout. In total, Stone scored five runs, drove in nine runs including at least one in each game, and belted three doubles, one triple, and two home runs for a 1.571 slugging percentage while also driving in the go-ahead runs in two of the four games.

Fort Lewis dominated Black Hills State across the board, earning its first series sweep of the season and extending its season-high winning streak to five consecutive games. In addition, the Skyhawks now reside seventh in the RMAC standings and one spot out of the RMAC Tournament.

The Skyhawks are set for the final regular season series up on Aspen Field this Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 20-21, against New Mexico Highlands (13-26, 9-25 RMAC). Fort Lewis will host its annual Nike N7 games on Saturday afternoon followed by Senior Day celebrations on Sunday.
