Men reside in third, women eighth through first round of RMAC Championships

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Fort Lewis College men's and women's golf squads found themselves in third and eighth place, respectively, after their first trips around the Coyote Run and Desert Hawk sections of the Boulder Creek Golf Club for the 2023-24 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
 
Ronald Kildall III, who has registered T-6th and 2nd place in his last two tournaments, currently holds sole possession of first place on the men's individual leaderboard. Kildall III posted a career-low 65 (-7) on the back of six birdies and an eagle on a par five.
 
Molly Schwartz added another career-low to the afternoon as the senior from Box Elder, S.D., carded a three-over-par 75 in her first trip around Boulder Creek. Schwartz stands locked in a six-way tie for 16th to lead all Skyhawks and birdied on holes two, three, six, and eleven.
 
The men posted a team score of 278 to stand 10 strokes below par and chase current second-place Colorado Mesa with a combined total of 274 (-14) and hold a five-stroke lead over Colorado School of Mines who finished with a 283 (-5); both squads are receiving votes on the Golf Coaches Association of America's Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches Poll.
 
On the women's side, the Skyhawks finished with a team score of 309 (+21) to hold an 11-stroke lead over ninth-place Westminster (320, +32) and trail both Colorado Christian and South Dakota Mines who are tied for sixth with totals of 304 (+16).
 
Colorado Christian leads all teams on the men's scoreboard following a 19-under finish through the first round with a 269 total. For the women, the ThunderWolves of CSU Pueblo lead the way as the only lady's team to finish par for the course with a 288 (E).

The full men's roster includes Kildall, Henry Poston (T-12, -1), Jordan Jennings (T-12, -1), Jackson Rottschafer (T-12, -1), and Jake Chesler (T-23, +1) while the men's squad features Schwartz, Vivianna Holguin (T-24, +5), Isabel Bustillos (T-24, +5), Sabrina Ladd (T-35, +8), and Kendal Gutierrez (39th, +9). 
 
Two To Go
Fort Lewis still has two days and two more rounds left in the conference championships. Tomorrow, Monday, Apr. 22, the Skyhawks men will tee off at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women at 11:00 a.m.
