Men’s golf battles to 9th place standing on day one of Hot Dirt Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Ronald Kildall III is holding strong in a tie for 11th as an individual while the Fort Lewis men's golf team resides in ninth place as a unit through the opening round of the two-day Hot Dirt Desert Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines at the Golf Club of Estrella.
 
The No. 13-ranked Patriots from Dallas Baptist lead the field as the only squad to finish below par with a 286 total (-2) and a two-stroke lead over No. 9-ranked Colorado Christian who resides in second and with an even par (288).
 
On the individual side, DBU's own Sam Jenkins is currently locked in a tie for first with Cal State Stanislaus' Chris Chomyn. The duo carded a pair of five-under-par finishes to reside at 67 overall each through the first round.
 
The Skyhawks reside in ninth with a 305 (+17) team total, one stroke ahead of Mines and Northwest Nazarene who are tied for tenth at 306 (+18), and trail eighth-placed Westminster (300, +12) by five strokes.
 
Kildall III recorded an even par of 72 through the first round to notch a seven-way tie for 11th through the first 18 holes. In addition, Kildall III is one of 18 individuals to finish par or better after round one. Henry Poston and Jake Chesler trail Kildall III as the next closest Skyhawks currently tied for 50th with 77s (+5) on the scorecards.
 
Fort Lewis will play one final round tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 6, 2024.
