Meet Preview: 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Nationals

DURANGO, Colo. – The duo of Hannah Hartwell and Katie Heck will represent Fort Lewis College Outdoor Track at the 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships, hosted by Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Hartwell and Heck were announced as national qualifiers last Tuesday, two of 754 total participants heading to the Kansas campus.

Hartwell's Journey to Nationals
Junior Hannah Hartwell has burst onto the scene in her first semester as a Skyhawk, earning First Team All-Conference nods in the 10,000m. Her distance prowess has drawn a spot in the 10k at the National Championships where she is seeded 18th with a time of 34:49.54.

The women's 10k is heavily represented by conference familiars as seven of the 20 selected hail from the RMAC. The race is set to close out day one of the Championships on Thursday, May 23rd with a 7:50 p.m. Mountain Time start.

National Runner-Up is BACK

Senior Katie Heck will close out her illustrious career by competing in both the 800m and the 1500m at the Championships. After earning All-Conference accolades in both events this season, Heck will begin her competition with the 1500m prelims at 4:25 p.m. MT on Thursday. The reigning National Runner-Up, Heck enters the prelim ranked eighth with a seed time of 4:21.41. Joining her in the 1500m are 10 members of RMAC institutions. Should she advance, the finals will be on Saturday at 1:35 p.m. MT.

Her 800m outing starts on Friday with the prelims at 5:15 p.m. MT. She ranks 11th in the field with a time of 2:08.50. Six RMAC student-athletes are competing in the 800m. The finals will be on Saturday at 2:55 p.m. MT.
