Kildall III trails after the first round in Las Cruces

5/9/2024 7:24:00 PM

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Competing against some of the region's strongest teams and individual talents, Fort Lewis' Ronald Kildall III finds himself trailing the field after the first round of the NCAA West South Central Super Regionals.

New Mexico State's Golf Course's narrow fairways and large greens proved a challenge for a majority of the field with only 18 individuals finishing above par (71) through the opening round.

Kildall III finds himself in a tie for 99th as he finished nine strokes over par with an 80 total. A birdie on hole six, a par three, highlighted Kildall's front nine as it helped to offset a four-pack of bogeys and a double-bogey on hole nine.

At five-over (40) through the course's first half, Kildall III closed out the back nine with an identical four-over 40 after bogeying holes 11, 13, 14, and 17.

Host institution Western New Mexico, who received votes on the latest Golf Coaches Association of America's Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches Poll, resides in first place on the team scoreboard with a seven-under team total of 277 and stands as one of just two teams to finish below par.

In addition, the Mustang's own Joey Geary, a fifth-year from Phoenix, Ariz., led all individuals with an outstanding 65 (-6) on six birdies and 12 pars and boasts a two-stroke lead heading into tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Friday, May 10, Kildall III will tee off in group 36 at 1:20 p.m.
