Stone recognized by NFCA with Second-Team All-South Central Region honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Kayla Stone has been named Second-Team All-South Central Region at second base by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the organization announced on Thursday. Stone is Fort Lewis' first all-region selection since 2017.

Stone, who picked up Second-Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors just a week ago, becomes just the seventh individual in program history to earn an all-region award.

Originally from Salinas, Calif., and Salinas High School, Stone played two seasons at Monterey Peninsula College before joining the Skyhawks in the fall of 2022. Since donning the Blue and Gold, Stone has twice earned all-conference honors in addition to capturing the program's first RMAC Player of the Week award this season since McKenna Hefley (2018-21) did so in April of 2021.

Starting in all 46 games for the Skyhawks, primarily at second base, Stone racked up 60 hits in 137 at-bats to tie the program record for the 10^th-most hits in a single season alongside a dominating .438 average. Stone wasn't done, however, as she also tied program single-season records for the second-most doubles (16), second-highest average (.438), sixth-most triples (3), seventh-most total bases (109), seventh-highest slugging percentage (.796), and ninth-most runs batted in (45).

In addition to adding nine home runs and drawing 20 walks while striking out just seven times on the season, Stone was also a pivotal piece of Fort Lewis' infield. After seeing limited innings at first base before transitioning back to second, Stone owned a .966 fielding percentage with seven errors against 208 catches, 120 putouts, 81 assists, and nine double-plays.

Stone is one of 11 student-athletes from the RMAC, and one of six to earn second-team honors, among the 24 total selections for the region.
