Aguilera’s two-goal performance in the eleventh-hour keeps No. 9 Fort Lewis undefeated

Fabrizio Aguilera scores first two goals of his career

DURANGO, Colo. – Fabrizio Aguilera stepped up in what could be the biggest way possible for a Skyhawk thus far as he netted back-to-back goals in the 88th and 89th minutes from distance to lift No. 9-ranked Fort Lewis (3-0-3) into a 2-2 draw with Montana State Billings (1-2-3) to remain unbeaten.

It was midnight mayhem on Dirks Field as lightning strikes in the area, mixed with rain and hail, forced a two-hour delay and ultimately, a freezing and slick 9:02 p.m. kick-off.

"Fabrizio bailed us out big time, just two absolute bangers in the final seconds of the game to get us a result," David Oberholtzer commented. "The guys worked super hard, I just thought we made some immature decisions. We know that everybody we play is going to give us their best game, that's what happened tonight, and we just weren't mature enough to deal with it. I'm super proud of the guys for how hard they worked and how they kept pushing, and incredible goals from Fabrizio so I'm super excited for him, but we'll keep working."

Although MSU Billings led in shots nine to five through the first 45:00 minutes, it was ultimately a balanced half as both sides exchanged offensive pushes, defensive breaks, and just four fouls apiece.

The Yellow Jackets came out of the half swinging, however, as in the 48th minute, freshman Arlo Follet, a Salida, Colo., native, utilized a well-placed header on a free kick from Jackson Hanley to earn his first career goal. Hanley earned the assist, the first of his career, after providing service across the field from nearly 30 yards out.

MSUB tacked on another exactly 10 minutes later when Bjarne Fedkenhauer jumped a pass by the Skyhawks back-line and quickly found space just inside the penalty box between two defenders to fire his second goal of the season off the gloves of diving Lucas Martin inside of the left post.

As time wound down, Fort Lewis ramped up. The Skyhawks proceeded to out-shoot the Yellow Jackets 11-to-6 in the final half and ultimately 16-to-15 for the match, including 6-to-5 in shots on goal, while also taking seven corners against MSUB's four.

Martin, in the 88th minute, left Fort Lewis' goal unmanned to grab a loose ball and provide service back into the MSU Billings defensive half. Martin fired away, a Yellow Jacket defender headed the ball to his left, and Aguilera had all the space he needed to notch his first career goal in the top-right corner of the net as well as Martin's first assist.

In what felt like a flash of an 89th minute, Casey Stracher supplied Aguilera with the ball at the top of the box once more on a throw-in near the FLC bench. Like lightning, Aguilera broke left to create space between two defenders and rifled the equalizer past a diving Fred Reiter and inside the right post.

Martin ended the day with three saves, two goals against, and an assist. Montana State Billings split time between its two goalkeepers giving Andrew Schoenen a clean sheet with two saves in the first half and Reiter two saves and two goals against in the second half.
