Key Returners
Fort Lewis returns a talented young core and a group of key upperclassmen from last season's squad that narrowly missed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. Headlining the group is senior shortstop Alex Tenorio. Starting in all 147 games played for FLC, Tenorio boasts a .352 career batting average (BA) and has twice been named All-RMAC Honorable Mention. A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tenorio has racked up 171 career hits including 31 doubles, 12 triples, and 13 home runs alongside 68 runs batted in (RBIs).

Another key factor for Fort Lewis lies within the pitching circle in senior Amiee Shanks. The five-foot-seven product out of Tucson, Arizona, has made 66 starts and thrown 54 complete games to total 464.2 career innings for the Skyhawks. Last season, Shanks boasted a 4.12 earned run average (ERA) while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage en route to being named the first player from FLC or the RMAC to the Rawlings Gold Glove Team.

Conference Champions
The Skyhawks will surely be tested this weekend, as four of its five opponents were either regular season champions, conference tournament champions, or even both. FLC will open the tournament on Friday against Dominican, who posted a 19-24 overall record and a 12-16 record in PacWest Conference play last season. The Penguins, batting .259 as a team with a 3.03 ERA, were slated to tie for a sixth-place finish this season on the PacWest preseason poll.

Sonoma State lies in wait after Dominican, with the Seawolves coming off of a California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season championship on the back of a 30-18 overall record and a 23-11 mark in CCAA play. Last season, SSU dominated in the circle with a 2.60-team ERA and backed it with a .276-team average at the plate.

Fort Lewis will line up opposite Vanguard for the first time in program history as the Lions embark on their first season at the NCAA Division II level. A member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics last season, Vanguard finished as the Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season runners-up on a 42-13 overall record and a 14-6 record in GSAC play before going on to sweep the GSAC Conference Tournament and make an appearance in the opening round of the NAIA Softball Tournament. As a squad, the Lions boasted a .309 team average paired with a 2.23 team ERA.

No. 15 Cal State Dominguez Hills will stand as the Skyhawks' first top-25-ranked opponent of the season. Last season, the Toros went 39-21 overall and 21-13 in CCAA play and won one of two NCAA West Regionals before falling to the eventual national runners-up Western Washington (52-12, 19-5 GNAC) in the West Region Super Regional. CSUDH owned a .301 team average and 2.92 team ERA.

Tournament host Concordia Irvine will stand as the Skyhawks' final challenge of the weekend and arguably its toughest. The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back seasons of winning both the PacWest regular season and conference tournament championships. Over the same span, CUI has owned an 87-27 record through the regular season and a 51-9 record in PacWest play. Last season, the Golden Eagles held a 2.13 team ERA and a .271 team average.

Up Next
