Skyhawks fall in road bout with No. 11/11 ThunderWolves

Davis makes seventh-longest interception return in DII this year

PUEBLO, Colo. – Fort Lewis went into enemy territory and stared down one of the top teams in the nation Saturday afternoon at the CSU Pueblo Thunderbowl, but despite a stunning interception and four forced fumbles, the Skyhawks couldn't keep up with the high-powered ThunderWolves offense, ultimately falling 49-13 to Colorado State University-Pueblo in front of a crowd of 6,378.

No. 11/11-ranked CSU Pueblo (6-1, 5-0 RMAC) remains unbeaten in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on the strength of a season-high 556 yards of total offense. The ThunderWolves dominated the skies off the arm of gunslinger Roman Fuller, who threw for a season-high 360 yards and three touchdowns on 28 completions in 41 attempts (68.3 percent). His lone blemish was an unofficial 100-yard interception hauled in by Kalib Davis. Davis jumped a short slant route a few yards deep on the left side of the end zone, and coasted down the visitor's sideline to the two-yard line before being tackled from behind. The official 98-yard interception stands as the seventh-longest in NCAA Division II this season.

The Pack added a quartet of touchdowns and 196 yards on the ground, paced by Russell Patton, who made seven carries for a game-high 69 yards and one score. Kiahn Martinez racked up 64 yards and two scores on 14 carries, and Moosah Alsaffar had the final rushing touchdown and had 47 yards on six attempts. Reggie Retzlaff led all receivers with two touchdowns and 94 yards on seven catches. Zack Rakowsky had the only other receiving touchdown thanks to a five-yard strike for the first score of the contest.

Fort Lewis (1-5, 0-4 RMAC) found 233 yards of total offense with a near-even split of 110 yards rushing and 123 yards passing. KB Broadus was once again the Skyhawks' go-to tailback at the goal line, registering a pair of one-yard rushing touchdowns in the third quarter before finishing with 60 total yards on 16 carries. In the air, Jacob Morris threw for 73 yards and one interception with nine completions in 14 attempts (64.3 percent). Jake Jones added another 50 yards on two completions in five attempts (40 percent).

Jake Penney continued his defense tear, spearheading the FLC defense with a season-high 16 total tackles. Penney has not finished with fewer than 10 tackles this season, and continued his reign as the RMAC leader in tackles dating back to the start of the 2024 campaign. Penney also forced one of four fumbles alongside Kameron Lewis, who made the second-most tackles on the roster with seven, Khalil Ali, and Aaron Francis. Only two fumbles were recovered by Fort Lewis, and Elijah Portela scooped up both.
