Eagles blank Skyhawks on Homecoming

Penney stays consistent with 12 tackles

DURANGO, Colo. – For the second consecutive year, Fort Lewis has come up empty-handed on Homecoming, suffering a 41-0 shutout at the hands of Chadron State College in front of a crowd of 2,484 on a beautiful fall afternoon up on the rim.
 
Chadron State stayed perfect in conference play, utilizing three takeaways to rack up 450 yards of total offense and climb to 6-2 overall and 6-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. Fort Lewis managed just 128 yards of total offense, its fewest since the 2024 season finale (Nov. 16), falling to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in RMAC play.
 
Redshirt junior Aidan Thompson had a perfect day in the pocket for the Eagles, connecting on 25 passes in 35 attempts (71.4 percent) for 237 yards and a staggering five touchdowns. Thompson linked up with three different receivers, and Tommy Thomas led the way with a game-high 12 catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns. Devon Sundgren and Garet Schlabs hauled in scores as well. On the ground, Daytuawn Pearson rushed for a game-high 98 yards on 14 carries. In total, the Eagles struck for 286 yards through the air and 164 yards on the ground.
 
Fort Lewis struggled in all aspects, fumbling the ball on four occasions while retaining just one, committed eight penalties for 83 yards, and converted on just four of 14 third-downs (28.6 percent). In addition, Chadron State dominated the time of possession, 38:20 to 21:40. KB Broadus led all Skyhawks in total offense, rushing for 48 yards on 13 carries. Orlando Guevara had 27 yards on four receptions to pair with four yards on five carries, and Jacob Morris added another 27 yards with eight completions in 14 attempts (57.1 percent).
 
Logan O'Brien spearheaded the Eagles' defense with a time-high six tackles, including 1.0 tackle for six yards lost and a forced fumble. Sutton Pohlman and William Stemler forced fumbles as well, and Ty Young led all players with 2.0 sacks for four yards. On the home side, Jake Penney posted his ninth consecutive game with 10 or more tackles, recording 12 across the afternoon alongside 0.5 tackles for two yards lost. Aaron Francis and Michael Delap forced their second fumbles over the last three games, and Francis and Walter Stauffer posted the only two Skyhawks sacks.
 
Notes
-Chadron State won its fifth straight game over Fort Lewis to lead the Skyhawks 35-5 all-time and 15-3 in Durango, Colo.
-Fort Lewis suffered its second-straight shutout on Homecoming.
-FLC managed a season-low 128 yards of total offense.
-Jake Penney has not finished with fewer than 10 tackles this season, and has posted nine consecutive games with double-digit tackles. Penney now has an RMAC-leading 88 total tackles and an average of 12.6 tackles per game.
-Aaron Francis and Michael Delap have now posted two strip-sacks over their last two games.

Fort Lewis will head up the Western Slope next Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 2 p.m. matinee against the Mavericks from Colorado Mesa University (3-4, 2-3 RMAC) at Stocker Stadium.
