DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis College football (1-5, 0-4 RMAC) is welcoming (RV) Chadron State College (5-2, 5-0 RMAC) to Ray Dennison Memorial Field up on the rim this Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, for its annual White Out and Homecoming Week, presented by Durango Motor Company and Bank of the San Juans. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

Homecoming Week and White Out
This season, homecoming weekend features a plethora of Skyhawks athletic events, including a pair of volleyball games, men's soccer matches, and Saturday afternoon's football game. Presented by Durango Motor Company and Bank of the San Juans, a limited number of annual homecoming shirts and rally towels will be available for fans. Gates will open at 10:30 a.m.

Facing the Fire
Fort Lewis is coming off one of the toughest stretches in Division II football, facing back-to-back preseason favorites and top 15 opponents in No. 5/5 Western Colorado University (6-0, 4-0 RMAC) and No. 9/9 Colorado State University Pueblo (6-1, 5-0 RMAC). The Skyhawks limited both high-output squads to 49 points, scoring 10 points and 13 points, respectively. The defense fought both foes head-on, forcing a combined six fumbles and intercepting two passes across both games. Jake Penney recorded a season-high 16 tackles on the road against the ThunderWolves, and Kalib Davis added a highlight moment of his own with a 98-yard interception return after picking off The Pack in the end zone. Against the Mountaineers, both Aaron Francis and Michael Delap made a pair of strip-sacks.

Finding a Foothold
The Skyhawks offense has produced over 300 yards of total offense on just three occasions thus far, and last on the road in a nail-biting 22-21 loss at South Dakota Mines (Sept. 27). Fort Lewis heads into the weekend averaging an even 290 yards of total offense with a balanced scheme of 121.5 yards rushing and 168.5 yards passing. Jacob Morris has guided the passing game, throwing for 652 yards and four touchdowns from the pocket on 56 total completions in 98 attempts (57.1 percent). On the ground, Jake Jones leads all players with 198 net yards on 33 carries, but KB Broadus leads all players with five total touchdowns on 33 carries.

Series with Chadron State
Saturday's matinee will mark the 40th all-time meeting between Fort Lewis and Chadron State, with the Eagles leading the series 34-5 since 1971. Through 17 games in Durango, Colo., CSC leads FLC 14-3, including four consecutive victories. The Skyhawks' last win came at home by a narrow 37-30 back on Sept. 21, 2019.

Soaring Into National Polls
Despite back-to-back losses to open the 2025 campaign, one of which was an impressive 3-17 defeat at NCAA Division I Football Championship Series Northern Colorado University (3-3, 1-1 Big Sky), the Eagles have since caught fire, winning five straight games to remain unbeaten and contend for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular-season championship. Most impressively, perhaps, was Chadron State's 34-28 victory on the road at No. 23-ranked Colorado School of Mines (4-2, 2-2 RMAC) to mark the program's first win at CSM since 2007. The Eagles' success earned them votes on the latest American Football Coaches Association top 25 national poll.

Strong Offense, Stronger Defense
Chadron State heads into Saturday sitting in the middle of the pack among the RMAC offensively, averaging a fifth-best 29.3 points on a sixth-best 383.3 yards per game. Defensively, however, is where the Eagles shine, surrendering a second-best 294.1 yards per game, which also ranks 22nd in DII. Redshirt senior linebacker Logan O'Brien has been a wrecking ball for CSC, putting up 53 tackles, including 13 tackles for a combined 49 yards lost, including five sacks for 23 yards, as well as one interception, two pass breakups, and five quarterback hurries. In addition, 14 different eagles have made tackles for loss, and seven of them have each recorded a sack.
