Women's soccer takes shutout streak on the road against BHSU and Regis

The Skyhawks have not allowed a goal in over 360 minutes

DURANGO, Colo. – Women's soccer hits the road this week for two conference matches, first facing Black Hills State on Friday before taking on Regis University to close out the trip on Sunday. The Skyhawks are seeking their first road win of the season.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis returns to the pitch after over one week off of competition, last playing on Thursday, October 16 at CSU Pueblo. The Skyhawks played to a scoreless draw against the Pack. The Skyhawks owned a 6-1 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks for the match. Fort Lewis was whistled for 12 fouls compared to seven for CSU Pueblo.

Senior defender Renee Junna led the team with two shots on goal, followed by senior Abigail Nkrumah, and juniors Jenna Salazar, Abila Tapia, and Amber Otts with one each. The defensive back of fifth year Danielle Gonzales, junior Ann Spence, and Junna added 90 minutes of effort. Freshman Trinity Lujan earned one save in the shutout.

Scouting Black Hills State
The Yellow Jackets are 4-6-4 this season with a 1-5-2 mark in conference play. The team has improved on its 3-11-4 record from the 2024 season. They are coming off a pair of 1-1 draws against Colorado Christian and MSU Denver last week at home.

As a team, BHSU has totaled 16 goals (1.14/game) compared to 18 goals (1.29/game) for its opponents. The Yellow Jackets own a .375 shots on goal percentage, 16 assists, 55 saves, 62 corners, and 104 fouls.

Leading the way individually is Peyton Hill with four goals and two assists, followed by Leah Day and Kayla Truong with two goal apiece. Aubri Roth leads the team with three assists while five additional players have multiple helpers. Midfielders Whitney Hansen and Day have put in over 1000 minutes on the field to lead the way. Goalkeepers have split time this season with Rian Barthel pacing the team with 630 minutes and a 1.14 goals against average.

The Skyhawks are 6-0-1 all-time against the Yellow Jackets and have outscored them by a 19-1 margin throughout the series history. Fort Lewis came away with a 4-0 home win in last season's meeting and outshot BHSU 26-10.
 
Scouting Regis University
The Rangers are enjoying an 8-2-4 season with a 4-1-3 mark in league play. The team has been in and out of the national poll and recently dropped out after back-to-back draws. Regis came away with identical 1-1 ties against MSU Denver and Colorado Christian last week. The Rangers protect the home pitch well with a 6-0-2 record on their home turf.

The team has totaled 26 goals (1.86/game) while allowing 13 (.93/game) from their opponents. Regis averages 11.4 shots per game on a .509 shots on goal percentage. The Rangers have totaled 22 assists, 77 saves, 48 corners, and 116 fouls.

Natlie Bunch, a returning First Team All-RMAC performer, leads the scoring effort with nine goals after notching both scores in last week's draws. Elsa Nolen follows with six goals, and Fernanda Rodriguez has added five goals and a team-best six assists. Defender Gianna Sparaco leads the team in minutes played with 1166 on the year. Four goalkeepers have seen playing time this season, led by Helen Stegner with 833 minutes between the pipes and seven wins.

Fort Lewis trails the all-time series but earned a win in last season's home match by a 3-0 final. The Rangers outshot the Skyhawks by a 19-10 margin in the 2024 meeting.

Inside the Numbers
Individually, Salazar leads the team with seven goals, followed by Anna Tucker with four. Abila Tapia and Kiana Jamerson each have three goals on the year. Rozlin Gomez has a team-best three assists while Abigail Nkrumah and Tapia each have two. On the defensive side, Ann Spence has been the ironwoman of the squad, logging 997 minutes, followed by Renee Junna (989), Josie Coulter (967), and Danielle Gonzales (967). Between the posts, Lujan has established herself as one of the conference's breakout players with a 6-4-2 record, 38 saves, and a .53 goals against average.
 
Around the RMAC
Within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Fort Lewis moved up from eighth place to fifth place thanks to the two wins and a draw in its last three matches. The Skyhawks rank third in goals allowed per game (.50), first in shots per game (17.33), fifth in goals per game (1.75), and third in saves percentage (.867). Individually, Salazar ranks first in the conference in shots per game (3.42) and sits among the leaders in goals per game (.583), while Gomez ranks 10th in assists per game (.250). Lujan ranks third in goals against average (.53) and third in saves percentage (.864).

Up Next
Fort Lewis plays its final home matches of the regular-season next week with a Friday/Sunday split. The Skyhawks open play against Colorado Christian on Friday, October 31 at 7 PM, followed by a 1 PM match on Sunday against MSU Denver.
