Men's and women's cross country place fifth at RMAC Championships, Hartwell and Molina named All-Conference

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's and women's cross country teams both earned fifth place finishes at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships on Saturday at Monument Valley Park, running different styles but picking up quality finishes nonetheless.

Women's Results
No. 26 Fort Lewis: 5th Place, 161 points
The Skyhawks earned a hard fought fifth place finish in the field of 15 teams, knocking off No. 14 Colorado Mesa and No. 19 CSU Pueblo to earn their position. Fort Lewis was led by senior Hannah Hartwell who crossed the finish line in fourth place (20:45.47) to earn First Team All-Conference honors for the second-consecutive season. Senior Alliyah Molina backed her up well with a Second Team All-Conference performance, placing 16th with a personal best time of 21:39.46—just 1.4 seconds off First Team honors.

Fort Lewis earned valuable points in the 3-5 spots with senior Althea Griffith fighting for 44th place (40 points) with a time of 22:29.0, and freshman Carysa Marquez was right behind her with a 45th place (41 points) time of 22:29.42. Senior Marisol Castilleja rounded out the scoring five with a time of 23:25.21 to earn a 69th place finish (60 points). Freshman Sophie Hamm placed 85th (24.00.28, 75 points) and sophomore Siena Yoder came in 90th place (24:11.39, 79 points).

Additional Finishers

No. 1 Colorado School of Mines earned the team title, the first in program history, with 28 points (1, 3, 7, 8, 9), followed by No. 8 UCCS with 68 points and No. 4 Adams State with 84 points. Grace Strongman of Mines was the RMAC Runner of the Meet with a course record time of 20:06.67.
 
Men's Results
No. 21 Fort Lewis: 5th Place, 173 Points
The men's squad ran a consistent, pack-style race to place fifth in the field of 15 teams. Fort Lewis came in ahead of MSU Denver (199 points), CSU Pueblo (229 points), and No. 8 Colorado Christian (242 points). The Cougars did not appear to be competing with their primary "A" team in today's race.

Freshman Evan Morozowich paced the team with a time of 25:30.49, good for a 30th place finish and 27 crucial points for team standings. Junior Cesar Diaz backed him up with a 32nd place spot, 29 points and a time of 25:33.16. The Skyhawks' third finisher was freshman Cooper Filmore who clocked a time of 25:45.05, good for 39th place and 36 points.The fourth and fifth place athletes for Fort Lewis were freshman Brody Hubbard (43rd, 25:53.09) and freshman Crewe Resendez (44th, 25.54.56).

Additional Finishers

No. 3 Adams State earned the upset victory over No. 1 Colorado School of Mines with 32 points (2, 4, 5, 8, 13) compared to 41 points (1, 3, 9, 11, 17) for the Orediggers. No. 10 Western Colorado followed with 58 points for third place, and No. 14 UCCS picked up fourth place nods with 122 points. Paul Knight of Mines and a Durango local earned the individual title with a time of 23:50.43.
