Cross country places 7th and 8th, Hartwell named All-Region

PUEBLO, Colo. -- The loaded South Central Regional Championships lived up to the hype with the No. 23 Fort Lewis College women's placing seventh and the No. 24 men's squad earning an eighth-place finish. 

Women's Results: 7th Place (273 Points)
The No. 23 Skyhawks placed seventh in the field of 26 teams, coming in just behind No. 15 Colorado Mesa University. No. 6 Adams State earned the team title with 42 points, knocking off No. 3 UCCS (2nd place) and No. 1 Colorado School of Mines (3rd place). Senior Hannah Hartwell led the team with a third-place finish, earning All-Region honors with a time of 20:23.7.

Senior Alliyah Molina followed in 32nd place with her time of 21:55.1, and freshman Carysa Marquez was the third to cross the line for Fort Lewis with her 64th place time of 22:46.0. Rounding out the scoring five for the Skyhawks was senior Marisol Castilleja (81st, 23:06.6) and senior Althea Griffith (93rd, 23:19.9).

Men's Results: 8th Place (253 Points)
The No. 24 Skyhawks placed eighth in the field of 24 teams, scoring behind MSU Denver and No. 15 UCCS. No. 2 Adams State earned the team title with 50 points, followed by No. 3 Mines (62 points) and No. 8 Western Colorado (75 points). Fort Lewis ran true to its style that has performed all season, putting up a 22 second spread in the 10k race.

Cesar Diaz led the team with a 37th place spot, clocking a time of 31:48.0. Freshman Cody Sullivan followed in 51st place at 32:05.7, and the trio of freshman Evan Morozowich (54th, 32:08.0), Crewe Resendez (55th, 32:09.4), and senior Brady Burrough (56th, 32:10.4) rounded out the scoring five.

Up Next
Fort Lewis College will await the selection show on Monday at 3 PM to see if its seasons will be extended on an individual and/or team basis. The national championship meet will be held on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wis. on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.  The women's 6k race will begin at 9 AM (MT) followed by the men's 10k race at 10:15 AM (MT).
