No. 13 Skyhawks erupt in second half, down Hardrockers 5-1 in Rapid City

Guintini posts second brace, third multi-goal match of campaign

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Quinn Bosanko put Fort Lewis ahead with a goal in the second minute, but it wasn't until the second half that Lorenz Guintini scored twice, Fabrizio Aguilera poured in his third goal of the season, and Frank Castro netted his first career goal in the blue and gold to power Fort Lewis to a resounding 5-1 victory over South Dakota Mines at Dakota Fields.

The Skyhawks utilized a precise 19 total shots, placing 13 shots on-frame, to advance to 8-3-4 overall and 4-2-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. South Dakota Mines (6-7-3, 1-7-1 RMAC) took just eight shots and placed three on-frame, scoring in the 61st minute off the foot of Erik Castanon. Castanon weaved through the back line to strike from the top of the penalty area. Daniel Freitas made a season-high eight saves in goal for SDM.

Fort Lewis struck in the 2nd minute on the first corner kick of the game, its first of seven for the match. Alessio Andreottola, from the near corner, sent service to the center of the box where Bosanko battled through contact to chip a header over the crowd into the top-right corner.

It wasn't until the second half, when FLC took 13 of its total shots, that the Skyhawks scored again, with Guintini taking advantage of a wide-open look at the left corner of the crease after Yohann Fila drove down the far side of the box to draw out four Hardrockers before centering service. Guintini would earn his second brace of 2025 later in the 72nd, punching in his goal mid-stride from the penalty line on centering service from Andreottola, who streaked down the sidelines to the right edge of the box with a pair of SDM defenders in tow. Fila and Andreottola were credited with their fourth and 12th assists of the season, respectively.

Aguilera tacked on an insurance goal, his third of the season, shortly thereafter in the 78th minute, striking from nearly inside the goal on a close shot from Tomás de Andraca that was saved by Freitas but floated dead-center of the empty net. The assist is the first of de Andraca's career.

The final score of the match came red-hot off the foot of a first-year Skyhawk in Castro. A two-year veteran out of Pima Community College, Castro leaped to contest a pass in the Hardrockers' defending third in the 79th minute, dispossessing his defender before taking a few strides and sending a screaming shot to the top-left side and past the diving goalkeeper. The goal is Castro's first in a Fort Lewis uniform and the second of his collegiate career.
