Women’s cross country earns bid to NCAA DII Nationals for third-straight year

INDIANAPOLIS – For the third-straight year, the Fort Lewis College women's cross country team is heading to the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships, announced Monday.

Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.

The women's team, ranked 23rd nationally in the latest version of the USTFCCCA poll, is coming off a seventh-place finish at the loaded South Central Regional. The women's 6k featured seven nationally ranked teams in the field of 26. Senior Hannah Hartwell led the team with an All-Region finish after crossing the line in third with a time of 20:23.7.

The national championship meet will be held on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wis. on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.  The women's 6k race will begin at 9 AM (MT) followed by the men's 10k race at 10:15 AM (MT).
