Orediggers down Skyhawks in season finale

Fort Lewis scores most points against Mines since 2016

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis football capped its 2025 campaign at home on Ray Dennison Memorial Field Saturday afternoon, suffering a 55-21 loss at the hands of Colorado School of Mines on Senior Day.

The Skyhawks conclude the season with a 2-9 overall record and a 1-8 mark against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents, while Mines improves to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Fort Lewis' 21 total points is its most against the Orediggers since putting up 35 points in a loss back on Oct. 1, 2016.

Three different Skyhawks threw for touchdowns on the afternoon. First, Jacob Morris connected with Michael Collins at the Mines 40-yard line, and Collins forced both defensive backs to collide before scampering for the 55-yard touchdown, his third of the year. Later in the third quarter, Fort Lewis went with trickery, as fullback Nicholas Minacapelli, who scored his first two touchdowns against Adams State (Nov. 1), stepped into a deep-ball, connecting with Jamille Humphrey for a 41-yard score. Zachary Gaumont punched in the final score with another 51-yard touchdown catch off the arm of Jake Jones, slipping past the secondary and racing down the sideline for his team-leading fourth receiving touchdown.

Jones led the Skyhawks with a career-high 112 yards on 7-of-13 passing (53.8 percent), Mines' Joseph Capra answered with a lethal 21-of-29 passing (72.4 percent) performance for 210 yards and four touchdowns. Four different Orediggers hauled in scores, and Josh Snyder rushed for a pair of touchdowns and 183 yards on 12 carries. Jones also led FLC with 38 rushing yards on eight carries, and Gaumont led all receivers with 92 yards on six catches.

Fort Lewis managed 358 yards of total offense, 147 yards of which came on the three deep-strikes, but the Skyhawks otherwise converted on just 5-of-14 third downs, came up empty on three fourth-down tries, and averaged 3.3 yards per rush. Colorado School of Mines exploded for 601 yards of total offense, averaging 7.6 yards per play and converting 8-of-14 third-downs.
