DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis softball team (1-5) will look to bounce back from its non-conference slate this Sunday and Monday as the Skyhawks head to Denver, Colorado, and the Assembly Athletic Complex to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a four-game series at MSU Denver (5-4).

Race to the RMAC Tournament
The 2025 RMAC Tournament is set for May 1-3 and will feature the top six of the league's eleven teams following the end of the regular season. The Skyhawks, picked to finish eighth in this season's preseason coaching poll, will play a four-game series against each conference opponent totaling 44 games. Heading into opening weekend, Chadron State (3-1) is the only team with one or fewer losses, while Colorado Christian (6-6, 2-0 RMAC) is the only team to pick up a pair of wins in RMAC play thus far.

First Win
Freshman Addison Gavigan, a right-handed pitcher out of Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Arizona, boasts Fort Lewis' only win in the circle thus far. Over in Irvine, California, Gavigan pitched her way to a 5-2 victory over Vanguard (Calif.) (2-7), earning a nod to the 2025 Concordia Kickoff Classic All-Tournament Team as one of only two players from the RMAC. The five-foot-seven pitcher threw a complete game, scattering seven hits, two runs – only one of which was earned – and one walk across 99 pitches while also striking out a pair.

Skyhawks Leaders
Backed by depth with four arms in the circle thus far, Fort Lewis stands atop the RMAC in team-earned run average (ERA) with a 2.33 mark. In addition, the Skyhawks are one of just three teams below a 3.00. Gavigan leads the squad with a 1.00 ERA followed by freshman Chloe Padilla with a 1.68, redshirt junior Hailie Mann with a 2.76, and senior Amiee Shanks with a 3.50. While Gavigan and Padilla are tied for the fewest hits with seven, Padilla leads all pitchers with five strikeouts. In addition, Gavigan, Padilla, and Mann, each rank second, fifth, and ninth in individual ERA across the RMAC.

On the offensive side, Fort Lewis ranks seventh in team batting average among league opponents with a .248 average. The Skyhawks currently boast four players above a .300 average, including senior Alex Tenorio (.353), freshman Alyssa Fockler (.333), senior Briana Jorgensen (.333), and freshman Rhiannon Lister (.308). Fockler leads the roster in slugging and on-base percentage with a .667 SLG percentage and .444 OB percentage backed by five hits, including two doubles and the only home run of the year, and two runs scored in 15 at-bats with three walks as well.
