COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Fort Lewis men's basketball team has claimed its league-leading eighth weekly honor of the season, with Cassius Carmichael earning his second nod as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Week 14 Defensive Player of the Week.

Fort Lewis (17-10, 11-7 RMAC) ties its 2014-15 season for the second-most weekly honors in a single season.

Carmichael, a six-foot-five junior from Glendale, Arizona, earns his second nod as the league's Defensive Player of the Week this season and sixth for the Skyhawks overall.

The Ironwood High School graduate and recent transfer from the College of Southern Idaho was the driving force behind Fort Lewis' defense this week. In the opening game of the week, a narrow 102-98 loss to CSU Pueblo (11-15, 6-12 RMAC), Carmichael supplied the offense with seven points while grabbing a game-high three steals in addition to blocking a shot and hauling in six rebounds.

In the Skyhawks 77-68 win over Colorado Christian (11-15, 7-11 RMAC), which sealed the program's fifth consecutive trip to the RMAC Tournament, Carmichael finished as one of three Skyhawks in double figures with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting with a three-pointer in his pocket. On the floor, Carmichael brought down two rebounds while he dished out an assist, blocked one shot, and made a game-high three steals.

Fort Lewis is on the road this weekend to close out conference play and the regular season. The Skyhawks will take on Chadron State (13-13, 9-9 RMAC) on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. and South Dakota Mines (4-22, 4-14 RMAC) on Saturday, Mar. 1, at 3 p.m.
