2/3/2025 2:00:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior forward Cassius Carmichael has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Week 12 Defensive Player Week, marking Fort Lewis' conference-leading fifth defensive weekly honor and seventh player of the week overall.

Carmichael, a recent transfer from the College of Southern Idaho and a native of Glendale, Arizona, has a career week for Fort Lewis in the Skyhawks' narrow 82-79 loss to No. 12/13 Colorado School of Mines (17-3, 11-1 RMAC) and 81-74 win over No. 23/25 MSU Denver (15-5, 9-3 RMAC).

Facing off against the conference-leading and top-ranked Orediggers, Carmichael aided the Skyhawks' offense with eight points but made his biggest impact on the defensive end where he led the roster with seven rebounds and two blocked shots while also making two steals and an assist.

Looking to help FLC bounce back and make a statement on Saturday, Carmichael later went for a season-high 18 points on a near-perfect 7-of-8 shooting from the floor with a 1-1 mark from the three-point line. In addition to his offensive output, he supplied another six rebounds, led the roster with three steals, dished out two assists, and blocked another shot.

This season, Carmichael is averaging 6.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 assists per game on 55.2 percent shooting from the field.

Fort Lewis is back in action for a split week, hosting Adams State (8-12, 3-9 RMAC) on Tuesday night, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m. before heading to New Mexico Highlands (8-12, 1-11 RMAC) on Saturday, Feb. 8, for a 3 p.m. contest.
