Riggs enjoys career night as Fort Lewis routs Adams State

Skyhawks eclipse 100 points in regulation for the first time

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis (15-7, 9-4 RMAC) extended its home winning streak to five games on Tuesday night as the Skyhawks, backed by a career-high 22 points from AJ Riggs, out-muscled Adams State (8-13, 3-10 RMAC) 102-81 in a physical midweek matchup in front of 1,175 fans in Whalen Gymnasium.

"I thought we did share the ball really well, and when we do that, it makes scoring so much easier," head coach Jordan Mast said. "I'm proud of our guys because we're starting to recognize things early. Not just actions, but getting guys into actions before the play. Good team effort and I still feel like there are areas we can clean up before Saturday."

It was a full team effort across the night as Fort Lewis put up 52 points off the bench behind Rigg's 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting (57.1 percent) with a lethal 5-of-10 (50 percent) from the three-point line. "I'm really proud of our team tonight; it was awesome, we had one of our best assist games as a team, which makes it so much more fun to be out there," Riggs added.

The Skyhawks made 22 assists across the night, the most this season and just the second performance with 20 or more as a team, while still winning the turnover battle 17 to 13 and picking up 14 steals.

Chuol Deng was the next man up, earning his sixth double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Biko Johnson scored another 14 points and matched Stewart Erhart with a game-high four steals, while also making four assists and bringing down four rebounds. Nathan Penney set a career-high of his own, adding the final 11 points to round out the Skyhawks in double-figures.

Fort Lewis was cruising on its home court, out-shooting Adams State 42.9 percent (30-70) to 41.0 percent (25-61) from the floor and 37.0 percent (10-27) to 15.8 percent (3-19) from beyond the arc. 47 personal fouls sent both squads to the line for much of the night, with ASU edging FLC 84.8 percent (28-33) to 82.1 percent (32-39).

Wyatt Helming supplied the Grizzlies with a double-double of his own, the first of his career at Adams State, on 18 points and 10 rebounds with a blocked shot and an assist as well.
