DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis softball team is heading across Wolf Creek Pass this Saturday and Sunday as the Skyhawks (2-22, 1-18 RMAC) challenge the Grizzlies (4-28, 2-18 RMAC) in a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series at Adams State in Alamosa.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, weather conditions in Durango forced the Skyhawks to travel for a four-game series with CSU Pueblo (15-12, 14-6 RMAC). The home turf of the Rawlings Softball Complex fueled a hot ThunderWolves squad to a four-game sweep over Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks held leads in three games, but crooked innings for The Pack proved too much to overcome. Redshirt freshman Makenna Milliman had a career weekend for FLC, going 6-for-12 at the plate with one walk, two runs scored, and four runs batted in (RBI).

Midway Trends
Through the first five weeks of conference play, the Skyhawks boast the league's sixth-best pitching staff by earned run average (ERA). With 164 innings in the book, Fort Lewis pitchers have registered a combined 4.57 ERA with a .317 opponent's average. Senior Amiee Shanks (0-6) leads the team with a 3.67 ERA, followed by freshman Addison Gavigan (1-3) with a 4.64 ERA, freshman Chloe Padilla (1-3) with a 4.58 ERA, and redshirt junior Hailie Mann (0-9) with a 5.31 ERA.

On the flip side, Fort Lewis has struggled to find its rhythm offensively, batting a combined .208 as a team. Senior third basemen Briana Jorgensen leads all Skyhawks with a .313 average, featuring five doubles, one triple, and two home runs for five runs and 11 RBIs. Milliman is the only other player with a +.300 average, swinging .304 on the year with one double, six runs, and seven RBIs.

Scouting the Grizzlies
Adams State will look to get back on track this weekend following eight-straight losses and, most recently, a dropped series to Colorado Mesa (18-8, 16-4 RMAC) at home. The Grizzlies were out-scored 48-12 and run-ruled twice by the Mavericks. In addition, Adams State enters the weekend carrying the league's tenth-best batting average (.252) and twelfth-best ERA (10.48).

The Grizzlies boast a three-player pitching staff led by Aubree Davis (4-11). A sophomore from Henderson, Colo., Davis owns all four wins for ASU this season with a 7.99 ERA through 92 innings pitched. Adams State has walked 123 batters to 63 strikeouts and has an opponent's batting average of .426.

Kaylee Eyl leads all players with a .344 batting average, followed by Emily Sauvageau with a .318 and Sydney Rodriguez with a .306. Eyl leads the roster with 31 hits, including six doubles and four triples, for 18 runs scored and 12 RBIs while Sauvageau leads the Grizzlies with 19 RBIs, 10 doubles, and two triples among her 28 hits. In addition, ASU is 16-for-19 on stolen base attempts this season.

Up Next
Fort Lewis will conclude its four-week road trip next Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 28-29, with a four-game RMAC series against the Cowgirls from New Mexico Highlands at the NMHU Cowgirl Softball Field.
