DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis softball team will embark on its fourth-consecutive road trip this weekend with the Skyhawks (6-22, 5-18 RMAC) heading down to Las Vegas, N.M., to challenge the Cowgirls (8-25, 2-22 RMAC) of New Mexico Highlands in a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series this Saturday and Sunday.

Break Out the Brooms
The Skyhawks are soaring high after picking up a four-game sweep and its first series win over Adams State (4-32, 2-22 RMAC) last weekend in Alamosa, Colo. Fort Lewis dominated the plate, out-hitting the Grizzlies 56-26 en route to the program's fifth consecutive series win over ASU. The Skyhawks scored no fewer than eight runs in any contest and also picked up its first shutout of the season on the back of a six-inning complete-game outing from Addison Gavigan (2-3). The freshman went the distance and gave up just four hits while setting a new career-high with six strikeouts.

Heating Up
Skyler Dietz was the hottest among Skyhawks in the box, finishing a combined 9-for-17 at the plate for the series. The junior from Atwater, Calif., accounted for 41 percent of Fort Lewis' total runs, scoring eight times and notching nine runs batted in (RBI). In addition, Dietz slugged for three doubles, a triple, and a home run, completing the cycle across games one and two of the series. Redshirt freshman Makenna Milliman, another member of the Skyhawks outfield, found her rhythm as well, going a combined 8-for-16 at the plate for two runs scored and eight RBIs on one double and two home runs.

As a unit, the Cowgirls rank 12th in batting average (.243), lead the league in strikeouts (200), and 11th in earned run average (7.65).
