Skyhawks conclude final regular season test

Chesler earns lone top 50 finish

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Fort Lewis men's golf team capped its 2024-25 regular season with a tie for 14th among 19 teams Tuesday afternoon at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Palm Valley Classic over in the blazing desert of Goodyear, Ariz.
 
The Skyhawks, facing 7,015 yards and a par of 72, went two-over-par with a score of 290 through the final eighteen holes, adding to its first and second-round scores of 297 (+9) and 286 (-2) for a final total of 873 (+9). The mark stood good for a three-way tie for 14th place alongside Northwest Nazarene and Saint Martin's.
 
No. 26-ranked Midwestern State, who stood three strokes back after the first two rounds, dominated through the final 18, shooting a tournament-best 272 (-16) to capture team medalist honors by a five-stroke lead and an 832 (-32) overall score. Colorado School of Mines captured third place on an 846 (-18) for the highest finish of any RMAC team.
 
On the individual leaderboard, it was Colorado Mesa's Cole Beyer, ranked sixth overall among Division II talents on Scoreboard, who edged Midwestern State's No.5-ranked Seth Bearden for individual medalist honors, carding a 66 (-6) in his final round to finish at 201 (-15) overall and one stroke ahead of Bearden.
 
Junior Jake Chesler made a strong performance in his final round, utilizing a quartet of birdies to offset a pair of bogeys to shoot a two-under-par 70 and jump 23 spots on the leaderboard, good for the fourth-most of any player in the final round. Chesler opened the tournament with a 76 (+4) and a 70 (-2) to finish in a tie for 37th overall on a par of 216.
 
Jordan Jennings notched the second-best finish among Skyhawks, holding his tie for 53rd on a 73 (+1) through his final round for a 218 (+2) total overall. Tyler Tyson finished in a tie for 62nd on a 219 (+3), followed by Traejan Andrews in a tie for 67th on 220 (+4) to round out the Skyhawks team-score contributors. Ronald Kildall III was the final Skyhawk to make the trip, finishing in a tie for 90th on a 228 (+12).
