Men’s soccer holds onto No. 9 national ranking

9/16/2025 2:35:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – For the second straight week, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team has checked in at No. 9 on the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 national poll.

The Skyhawks (1-0-2) took a trip to the sweltering Lone Star State last Thursday and Saturday, and came away with a pair of 3-3 and 1-1 draws at St. Edward's (2-0-2) and No. 17-ranked St. Mary's (1-0-2), respectively. Fort Lewis remains unbeaten through three matches thus far.

Freshman phenoms Alessio Andreottola and Yohann Fila each tallied a pair of goals over the week, kick-started by Fila's brace against the Hilltoppers. The six-foot forward from Nantes, France, struck twice over the span of 23 minutes, finding the net twice on a pair of loose balls inside the penalty area.

Andreottola, on the other hand, all but secured FLC's 0-0-2 week, scoring the go-ahead and equalizing goals in both matches. At St. Edward's, Andreottola, a native of Colmar, France, navigated through four defenders on the far side before striking from 35 yards out with a diving ball just between the crossbar and the outstretched keeper. Facing a possible shutout from the No. 17 Rattlers, Andreottola made a clean tackle on the back line, giving him a clean look toward the goal. After driving inside the box, Andreottola broke left past a streaking defender and fired a shot across the box to equalize.

Andreottola boasts the second-most goals scored (3) in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while firing the most total shots (12) and the most shots on goal (7), and ranks second in total points (6). In addition, Andreottola has scored the go-ahead or equalizing goal in every match this year.

The Skyhawks hang on to their No. 2 South Central regional ranking behind No. 3 nationally ranked CSU Pueblo (2-0-2). St. Mary's holds its No. 17 ranking as the only other program from the region inside the top 25. St. Edward's and Regis (2-1-0) each received votes.

Fort Lewis is back at home this Thursday and Saturday to face a pair of foes from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the greater West South-Central super region. The Skyhawks will first take on Simon Fraser (0-2-2) on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. for its annual Nike N7 match presented by SkyUte Resort and Casino. FLC will then host Northwest Nazarene (3-0-1), which received votes on this week's national poll, on Saturday, Sept. 20, for another 7 p.m. match under the lights of Dirks Field.
