Skyhawks take eighth place in home appearance at San Juan Intercollegiate

MONTROSE, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's golf team, in conjunction with No. 19-ranked Colorado Mesa University, co-hosted the San Juan Intercollegiate up at The Bridges Golf & Country Club, where the Skyhawks earned an eighth-place finish as a team on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Fort Lewis finished with an even par of 852 in the tournament, firing off single-round scores of 281 (-3), 281 (-3), and 290 (+6), to edge Westminster 879 (+27). The nationally ranked Mavs took team medalist honors with a five-stroke lead, posting an 828 (-24) overall total to edge second-place West Texas A&M University (833, -19), who received votes on the latest Golf Coaches Association of America Bushnell/Golfweek national poll, and third-place Cameron University (836, -16).
 
West Texas A&M's Luis Palomo won individual medalist honors, as the senior from Barcelona, Spain, finished below par in all three rounds with scores of 64 (-7), 68 (-3), and 65 (-6). Jordan Jennings and Traejan Andrews were the only Skyhawks to finish among the 24 players below par, as the duo matched one another with a pair of four-under 209s to capture a tie for 11th overall.
 
Benjamin Harding secured a career-best 29th-place finish, shooting a 69 (-2), a 71 (E), and a 74 (+3) to post a 214 (+1) overall while also earning his first-ever rounds at and below par. Jake Chesler and Ian Henderson contributed to the team's overall score as well, earning 40th and 57th-place finishes with final scores of 220 (+7) and 231 (+18), respectively.
 
The Skyhawks also traveled a second squad for the tournament, and freshman Chase Rogers paced the group with a 229 overall to earn a 54th-place result. Rounding out the second group were Davis Johnson in 59th on a 235 (+22), Dallin Stephens in 60th on a 239 (+26), and Connor Burton in 61st on a 243 (+30).
