Looking to Bounce Back
The Skyhawks look to take advantage of the one-match week and a few extra days of training after suffering a pair of 2-1 and 2-0 losses last week to No. 23 University of Colorado Colorado Springs (9-1-5, 4-1-2 RMAC) and No. 7 Colorado State University Pueblo (11-0-2, 5-0-2 RMAC), respectively. Freshman Iver Høihjelle scored Fort Lewis' lone goal over the weekend with a glancing header on a corner kick from Francisco Pinto. Heading into Sunday, the Skyhawks sit fourth in the RMAC standings, five points back from first place, with 12 total points.

By the Numbers
Senior goalkeeper Lucas Martin stands between the posts heading into Sunday and boasts a 1.16 goals-against average and 72.3 percent save percentage, conceding 13 goals while making 34 saves against 120 shots faced. Høihjelle leads Fort Lewis defenders with two goals this year, while Johan N'Ganzadi has two assists, and Noam Maggartou, Anis Harrar, and Alexandros Papakonstantinou carry one assist each.

Offensively, Fort Lewis lives on pressure, firing 13.3 shots and 6.2 shots on-goal per match, in addition to a combined 63 total corners this year, 23 more than its opponents thus far. Raul Baptista Filipe has been hot in recent weeks at midfield, where he's scored three goals and dished out six assists for 12 points. Pinto and William Bretvik are tied at 11 points, with Bretvik scoring five goals with one assist, while Pinto has made five assists and scored thrice. Fabrizio Aguilera boasts three goals and one assist for seven points as well.

History with Mines
Stermole Soccer Stadium has troubled the Skyhawks in recent years, as the Orediggers have won six consecutive matches, seven of the last nine, and forced two draws since Fort Lewis last won, 2-1, in overtime back on Oct. 31, 2014. The Skyhawks do, however, carry the most recent win with a 1-0 decision last year on Oct. 26, 2025. Fort Lewis also leads the series 34-26-8 all-time, but trails Mines 16-12-4 in Golden.

Under New Leadership
Interim head coach Ben Frederickson, who joined the squad as an assistant coach back in the spring of 2025, is still in search of his first win at the helm of the program. Most recently, the Orediggers fell 3-2 at home to Adams State University (2-10-1, 1-6 RMAC). Frederickson previously had stints with Real Colorado, Tennessee Soccer Club, Michigan Stars Football Club, Albion Soccer Club of Las Vegas, with institutions such as the University of Buffalo, Spring Hill College, and Duquesne University, and played collegiately in the RMAC for Regis University in 2010-13.

Scouting the Orediggers
Colorado School of Mines is still searching for its first win in 2026, but the Orediggers have come close, losing or tying eight one-score games while scoring in ten matches and suffering four shutouts. In goal, three different Orediggers have started at least thrice. Freshman Noah Hildreth has made the last two appearances, and carries a 2.36 goals-against average and 55.2 percent save percentage with 13 goals conceded and 16 saves against 83 shots in six starts and 495 minutes.

Freshman midfielder Pol Garcia Oliveras and sophomore Avi Levin lead the team with four goals apiece. Garcia Oliveras, however, leads the side in total points with 10 thanks to two assists against Levin's one. Sophomore winger Murray Peart paces the Orediggers in assists with three while also scoring two goals for seven points.

Looking Ahead
Fort Lewis is scheduled to close out the 2026 regular season at home at Dirks Field with a three-match homestand beginning with the Skyhawks Blackout match against South Dakota Mines (7-4-3, 3-3-1 RMAC) on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m.
