(RV) Skyhawks move to No. 9 in latest NPI Super Region 4 rankings

10/19/2026 11:44:00 AM

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team has moved up to No. 9 in the latest NCAA Power Index (NPI) Super Region 4 rankings, which outline the potential field for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship, following the NCAA's updates Monday morning.

Beginning in 2026-27, the NCAA will use NPI in determining the field for most championships. A version of NPI has been used for ice hockey since 2013 and was later adopted by Division III in 2024-25. NPI evaluates a team's season by considering both results and strength of schedule. Each contest produces a value based on whether the team won, lost, or tied and the opponent's NPI. NPI calculations update throughout the season as teams play additional contests and opponent NPI values change. A team's final NPI is not determined until the final games and rankings of the season are complete.

The Division II Men's Soccer Championship will remain at 40 teams, comprised of four super regions of ten teams each. Teams will still be seeded by super region. In Super Region 4, the Skyhawks contend with teams from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), Lone Star Conference (LSC), California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA), PacWest Conference (PacWest), and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Each conference also boasts one automatic qualifier for the NCAA postseason, leaving five at-large bids.

Fort Lewis (8-4-2, 5-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) moved up one spot to No. 9 after debuting at No. 10 in initial rankings last week, following a dominant 7-1 rout of Colorado School of Mines (0-12-3, 0-6-1 RMAC). The Skyhawks enter the final three-match stretch third in the RMAC standings with 15 points, trailing second-place Regis University (8-3-3, 5-1-1 RMAC) with 16 points and first-place Colorado State University Pueblo (12-0-2, 6-0-2 RMAC) with 20 points.

The Skyhawks will close out the 2026 regular season with a three-match home stand, beginning with South Dakota Mines (7-4-4, 3-3-2) for Fort Lewis' Blackout Match this Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. on Dirks Field before facing Regis on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.
