Men’s soccer tenth in Monday’s NCAA Power Index rankings

10/26/2026 4:54:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – Following a 1-1 weekend at home, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team has slid to No. 10 in the latest NCAA Power Index (NPI) Super Region 4 rankings, which outline the potential field for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship.

Beginning in 2026-27, the NCAA will use NPI in determining the field for most championships. A version of NPI has been used for ice hockey since 2013 and was later adopted by Division III in 2024-25. NPI evaluates a team's season by considering both results and strength of schedule. Each contest produces a value based on whether the team won, lost, or tied and the opponent's NPI. NPI calculations update throughout the season as teams play additional contests and opponent NPI values change. A team's final NPI is not determined until the final games and rankings of the season are complete. Starting today, NPI will be updated daily ahead of the NCAA Selection Show on Nov. 9.

The Division II Men's Soccer Championship will remain at 40 teams, comprised of four super regions of ten teams each. Teams will still be seeded by super region. In Super Region 4, the Skyhawks contend with teams from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), Lone Star Conference (LSC), California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA), PacWest Conference (PacWest), and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Each conference also boasts one automatic qualifier for the NCAA postseason, leaving five at-large bids.

Fort Lewis (9-5-2, 6-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) fell to No. 10 after defeating South Dakota Mines (8-5-4, 4-4-2 RMAC), 3-1, but also falling 3-1 to No. 17 nationally ranked Regis University (10-3-3, 7-1-1 RMAC). The Skyhawks head into their final regular-season match with 18 total points and, with a win, could clinch the No. 3 seed for the RMAC Tournament and a quarterfinal match on Dirks Field on Sunday, Nov. 1.

First, the Skyhawks must face Adams State University (2-12-1, 1-8 RMAC) for the regular-season finale this Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. on Dirks Field.

Below are the top ten teams ranked in Super Region 4 by NPI. Final rankings and selections will be announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Nov. 9.
