Men’s golf heads to Oklahoma for The Hrnciar

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis men's golf team returns from its two weeks of rest this Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6, at The Hrnciar over at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Oklahoma.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis comes off a tenth-place team finish at its second San Juan Intercollegiate (Sept. 21-22) at The Bridges Golf & Country Club up in Montrose, Colo. The Skyhawks traveled with all nine student-athletes, and the A-team took home a tenth-place finish on the strength of a five-over-par 857 through three rounds at the 7,017-yard, par-71 Nicklaus-designed course. A pair of Skyhawks finished inside the top-20, including junior Talan Gover in T-14 on a 209 (-4) and freshman Preston Ross T-17 on a 210 (-3).
 
Last Time at The Hrnciar
The Skyhawks last competed at The Hrnciar back in Oct. 21-22, 2024, and senior Tyler Tyson brought home individual medalist honors for FLC after finishing with a 217 (+1) and winning a three-player playoff. As a team, Fort Lewis shot scores of 293 (+5), 313 (+25), and 300 (+12) to capture sixth place as a team on a 906 (+42) total.  
 
Skyhawks Lineup
Representing Fort Lewis this week are Gover, Ross, freshmen Mateo Berastegui and Johnathon Smith, and sophomore Chase Rogers. Rogers, Berastegui, and Smith took T-23 (-1), T-30 (+1), and T-38 (+2) at the San Juan Intercollegiate, respectively.
 
The Field
Fort Lewis will take on host institution Cameron University, which received votes in the Golf Coaches Association of America Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches' Preseason Poll, and Colorado School of Mines, Western State University, and St. Mary's University, which also received votes, as well as Lubbock Christian University, Garden City Community College, Dallas Baptist University, Weatherford College, University of Texas Permian Basin, Blinn College, Pittsburg State University, and Texas A&M University–Texarkana.
 
Looking Ahead
Fort Lewis will head south once more on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12-13, as the Skyhawks return to the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Amarillo Country Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the first time since 2024.
